Angel Reese’s Barbie Is Wearing a New Colorway of Her Signature Shoe

Call it a self-fulfilling prophecy — the WNBA’s own ATL Barbie, also known as Angel Reese, now has her own signature Barbie launching with Mattel, marking the brand’s first Gen Z athlete doll. And the basketball star’s signature shoe, the Reebok Angel Reese 1, is getting the Barbie treatment with a new colorway available in time for All-Star Weekend in Chicago, while the doll comes with a tiny true-to-life version.

The Barbie-inspired version of the Reebok Angel Reese 1 features the signature hot pink hue associated with the famous doll, but it doesn’t overpower the shoe. The bold color is applied to the laces, tongue, heel and inside lining, while most of the upper is off-white with splashes of light blue, yellow and beige.

The Barbie, meanwhile, wears a meticulously detailed toy version of the new signature shoe colorway. Angel Reese’s doll continues to embody her fashion with the rest of its outfit. The miniature version of the Reebok sneakers is paired with a hot pink jersey and shorts — bearing Reese’s first name and real-life jersey number — and a leg sleeve just like Reese wears on court. Her accessories include layered necklaces, a pink headband, and, of course, a pink basketball in hand.

The record-breaking WNBA player is a forward for the Atlanta Dream, following her rookie season with the Chicago Sky, the team that drafted her as the seventh overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. While she rebranded as ATL Barbie to rep her new city, she got her start as Bayou Barbie as a standout player at Louisiana State University. Just as her star ascended for her exceptional rebounding and intensity on the court, the athlete built a reputation for herself in the fashion world, too. She’s graced magazine covers and earned the Style Influencer of the Year honor at the 2024 Footwear News Achievement Awards.

Reese continues to release new and exciting colorways of the Angel Reese 1 which hold personal meaning to the athlete. Reese’s first signature shoe launched in three colorways in September, including the iridescent “Diamond Dust,” the pink “Mebounds” and the black and white “Receipts Ready.” In addition to other releases, we saw the “Unapologetically Angel” tie-dye version awash in pastel hues debut earlier this year in time for spring.

Mattel’s Barbie brand is continuing to bank on the importance of Gen Z, with the announcement of the Angel Reese doll following partnerships with Coachella, Erewhon, Edikted and Dunkin’. The company has taken note of how women’s sports have skyrocketed lately, referencing a Ticketmaster statistic that 71% of Gen Z female fans name women’s basketball as their top sport.
