An Upcoming Documentary Aims to Give Doug Jones Some Well-Deserved Flowers

There are two types of people in the world: those who adore Doug Jones in every film or TV series he’s in, and those who adore the performance and have no idea it was Doug Jones. With one of the most stacked resumes of our time, including roles in Hocus Pocus, The Shape of Water, Star Trek: Discovery, Hellboy, Falling Skies and truly hundreds more, it’s impressive how many people would not recognize this incredible character actor in person.

An upcoming documentary, largely powered by fans of Doug Jones, shines a spotlight on just how talented this actor is.

Director Eric Conlin and executive producer Derek Maki have just announced a self-described love letter in the form of a Kickstarter-funded documentary called Get Me Doug Jones. The campaign, which went live on Monday, says the filmmakers already have a significant collection of interviews from Hollywood legends like Bette Midler, Noah Wylie, Sonequa Martin-Green, Ron Perlman, Harvey Guillén and more than 20 others who have worked with Jones throughout his career.

The goal is clear: to make more people aware of the actor behind dozens of beloved characters that, in many cases, feel simultaneously more and less human the longer you watch them.

A Kickstarter campaign aims to raise funds for the final stages of this Doug Jones project.

While the documentary doesn’t have a release date, and the Kickstarter doesn’t go into detail on potential interviews that could be added before its release, promotion out of the gate is intense. The campaign promises quite a bit, including merch signed by Jones himself, interviews with some of his co-stars, and live Q&A sessions at places like Hollywood’s infamous sci-fi bar, Scum and Villainy Cantina.

All in all, this looks like a lot of fun made by people who truly appreciate the work of this great actor and want more people to see the very tall man behind the mask. Or prosthetics. Or face paint. Or some never-before-seen combination to create a face we haven’t seen on screen before. Personally, I’m excited to see this come together and watch, as many of my friends will finally believe me when I say Doug Jones is in everything.
