American Airlines is the world’s largest carrier in multiple ways, including for traffic. In the 12 months to April 2026, the country’s Department of Transportation (DOT) shows that around 225 million passengers were transported.
The 
oneworld member’s full schedule has been explored using OAG data. Between September 2026 and March 2027, the latest information shows that American plans to introduce or resume 15 routes. This is based on having at least four departures. This article simply summarizes what is coming.
These 11 Domestic Routes Are Coming
The entries reflect what is known as of August 10. It is possible that other routes will materialize. Most of American’s hubs are represented, except its busiest facility of 
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). In contrast, 
Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) stands out.
Five domestic routes from ORD are coming, one of which is Marion, which is within Illinois. American Eagle will replace Contour, but with significantly higher fares. The benefit of American’s entry is the considerable connectivity available via ORD. At 258 nautical miles (478 km) each way, ORD-Marion is only American’s 30th-shortest link from ORD between September 2026 and next March.
Not even ORD to South Bend is American’s shortest service from ORD. It ranks second, behind ORD to Milwaukee. Service to South Bend will see aircraft by American or at least American Eagle for the first time in 27 years, replacing the bus operation. American Eagle will coexist with United Express to South Bend, with up to a record 11 daily flights between them.

These Four International Routes Will Launch
Notice the first entry: PHX to the Mexican city of Oaxaca. With a minimum requirement of four departures, this route only just made the cut. It will be the first time the market has been served. Nonstop service will exist for the Día de los Muertos (or the Day of the Dead). Of course, American has regular service from DFW to Oaxaca.
PHX flights will operate on October 29, October 30, November 3, and November 4. On the first day, AA3165 will depart from Arizona at 10:24, and the same flight number will arrive back at 7:15 PM. While completely unrelated, it comes as PHX-Monterrey flights are suspended. American will fly from PHX to 11 Mexican airports in the upcoming winter.

American Will Now Fly To 18 Airports In Florida
Partly influenced by American’s MIA hub, the oneworld operator is the comfortably largest airline to, from, and within Florida. Between September and next March, OAG data shows that it has 27% of the Sunshine State’s domestic flights, 37% of the international services, and 58% of the intrastate activity.
Naples was last served by American more than a quarter of a century ago, in 1999. With its return, the airline now plans to serve 18 airports in Florida. That’s more than any other operator, with the next closest carrier being 
Delta Air Lines, with 16. In the examined period, American plans an average of 86 daily departures from CLT to Florida. All 18 airports will be served from the North Carolina hub, including Naples for the first time.
