Alaska Airlines Cancels 11 International Routes: See Full List Now

Alaska Airlines is the United States’ sixth-largest international operator by flights. In 2026, OAG data shows that it has an average of 43 daily services, primarily, of course, to Canada and Mexico. Currently, the international arena accounts for only 3% of the oneworld member’s total activity.

Perspective is needed. Some foreign airlines, such as Aeromexico, Air Canada, Avianca, British Airways, and Volaris, have more US flights than Alaska Airlines’ total international operation. Its long-haul network is currently a tiny but growing area, with services to Asia starting in 2025 and Europe in 2026.

Exploring the airline’s international network in 2026 identifies that the following markets have been removed. No services are scheduled for 2027. None are from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), Portland International Airport (PDX), or from Hawaii following the acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines by the Alaska Air Group. Instead, they are point-to-point leisure destinations, primarily from non-core airports across its network.

All but one of the eliminated routes was to Mexico. The sole exception was from Los Angeles International to Kelowna, Canada. Alaska Airlines served that market, renowned for skiing, from winter 2024/2025 using SkyWest’s 76-seat Embraer 175s.

Two other airlines operated in the past. WestJet pulled out in April 2013, followed by United Express in February 2015. Alaska Airlines continues to serve Kelowna from SEA, with up to two daily services. WestJet operates to Seattle and Phoenix.

This route, which covered 1,328 nautical miles (2,459 km) each way, was always flown on Saturdays. Originally launched by Alaska Airlines in January 2025, flights initially existed through April last year. They returned in January 2026 and ended for good two months later.

US Department of Transportation (DOT) data shows that 2,495 round-trip passengers were carried in 2025, with just 63.7% of seats filled. In 2026, the traffic amounted to 1,872 passengers, with a load factor of just 45.7%. The lowest load in 2026 was in January, when just 31.8% (!) of seats had passengers. Ouch.

It is hardly surprising that the airline’s international experiment from Missouri has ended. However, Southwest Airlines continues to fly between St. Louis and Puerto Vallarta, albeit in an even more limited way than Alaska Airlines. Flights began in March 2026, yet had a load factor of 37.0%. They are due to return in March and April 2027 with Saturday service.

Big International Growth From Seattle, But Mainly Not Elsewhere

Between November 2026 and August 2027, Alaska Airlines plans an average of 20 daily international departures from SEA. Schedule analysis shows that they’ve jumped by 10% compared to the same period in 2025/2026, cementing the position of what is, of course, overwhelmingly the carrier’s primary hub. 18 non-US destinations are now available, including Athens and Paris.

While international services from SEA are up, they’re down from Honolulu (-6%) and PDX (-2%). They’ve also fallen from other airports in the Lower 48 (-2%), as Alaska Airlines prioritizes where it is strong. Gone are all international flights from Kansas City, Las Vegas, New York JFK, Sacramento, and St. Louis. Only Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and San Jose are left, of which only two have grown: Los Angeles (+4%) and San Diego (+1%).
