Alan Ritchson on to star in ‘Helldivers’ for Sony

There’s a change happening in front of the camera for Sony’s big screen adaptation of successful PlayStation title ‘Helldivers.’

While Jason Momoa (‘A Minecraft Movie’) had been aboard to star, the lead will now be taken by Jack Reach… er, Alan Ritchson, at least assuming his deal is sealed, per Deadline.

‘Fast & Furious’ directorial veteran Justin Lin remains aboard to handle the movie.

What’s the story of ‘Helldivers’?

While the film’s storyline has yet to be confirmed, the basic story of the game (released in 2015 by Arrowhead Game Studios), sees an elite unit of soldiers — known as Helldivers — who battle alien creatures that are threatening to destroy the fictional planet of Super Earth.

A follow-up game landed in 2024.

Where else can we see Alan Ritchson?

Ritchson is still busy with his main gig, starring in the title role of Prime Video series ‘Reacher’ as hulking vigilante and former Military Police officer Jack Reacher. The fourth season recently landed and the fifth is in production. He also showed up in recent ‘Reacher’ spin-off ‘Neagley.’

Movie-wise, he was most recently seen in ‘Runner’ and is has worked on several projects including an untitled Navy seal drama for Amazon and Christmas-themed pic ‘The Man with the Bag,’ which sees Arnold Schwarzenegger playing Santa.
