Nike, Inc.’s Jordan Brand is going all out for the 30th anniversary of Michael Jordan’s “Space Jam” film with new styles and familiar reissues connected to the film set to be released throughout the year. In addition to the movie’s iconic Air Jordan 11 sneakers, yet another on-screen look is headed back to store shelves soon. 

The original Air Jordan 9 in White/Black/True Red will also be rereleased this year. With its Chicago Bulls-centric colors, this Air Jordan 9 was first released in 1993 and arrived during Jordan’s first retirement from the NBA. This made the shoe one of just a handful of early Air Jordans that were not worn by Jordan himself during NBA action, although he did wear a cleated version of the shoe during his brief stint in Minor League Baseball. 

Without a clear connection to Jordan’s on-court legacy, the marketing around this Air Jordan 9 has shifted in the decades since its first release and has instead centered around the Warner Bros. film in which Jordan briefly laced up the shoe. The Space Jam marketing tie-in was first introduced during the Air Jordan 9’s 2016 retro campaign and has more or less stuck ever since. Along with the most recent ’16 reissue, this Air Jordan 9 style was also rereleased in 2010, 2008 and 2002. 

But if for some reason the Air Jordan 9 isn’t quite Space Jam enough for you, the film’s most famous sneaker is also set to return this holiday season, and it’s not coming alone. The Air Jordan 11 Retro Space Jam, with its black patent leather and ballistic mesh upper, will be released for the first time since ’16. And for those seeking a new spin on the theme, a new, still-unseen “Space Jam Galaxy” version of the Air Jordan 11 is also expected to be released in limited quantities this December.
