Air Jordan 17 Low’ Black Patent’ Release Date IV7640-001

Just days after news surfaced that Michael Jordan’s original Air Jordan 17 in “College Blue” would be returning in 2027 for the first time ever, an early look at another version of the once-overlooked model has emerged.

Set to be released even sooner is the Air Jordan 17 Low “Black Patent.” The upcoming pair references the original Black/Chrome colorway of the sneaker from 2002 and while it maintains its predominantly black design with chromed-out detailing, it does feature a handful of noteworthy updates. The upper of the shoe replaces its traditional smooth black leather for a glossy, full patent leather construction. The sneaker’s croc-textured eyestay is replaced with a perforated black leather, while the outsole shifts from a solid black rubber to an dark gray look.

While there are more differences between the new release and the original Black/Chrome style than first expected, it’s likely that the discrepancies won’t do much to hamper interest in the upcoming colorway. With more than 20 years since the original release, many fans are eagerly anticipating the latest launch. This, combined with a renewed interest in the Air Jordan 17 model after a string of limited-edition releases in 2024 and 2025, will likely spell a quick sell-through for the soon-to-be-released Black Patent pair.

In addition to this Black Patent pair, the Air Jordan 17 will also be reissued next year in its original College Blue colorway. That launch is expected to coincide with NBA All-Star Weekend in February.

The Air Jordan 17 Low Black Patent has a full colorway of Black/Black/Metallic Silver and its style code is IV7640-001. It’s currently set to be released on Aug. 8 from Nike’s Snkrs app and select Jordan Brand retailers. Like other recent Air Jordan 17 releases, it’s possible the pair will be available exclusively from Nike’s Nbhd stores. Retail pricing has not yet been confirmed.
