After losing its creative director, it looks like Assassin’s Creed Hexe has lost its game director now too

Welp, the game Assassin’s Creed Hexe may have been a few months ago probably won’t be the game it will be. Back in February, the still quite mysterious Hexe lost its creative director, Clint Hocking. Now it appears that the game has also lost its game director, Benoit Richer.

This is based on a recent post from Richer shared to his personal LinkedIn, where he announced that he has started at a new studio. “This is the beginning of a new chapter: I’m joining Servo Games as Game Director!” reads the post. “An indie studio of industry veterans, aligned around a shared vision of the industry and experience creation, with a strong complementary skill set.” Judging from its website, Richer is co-founder of the studio, alongside Alex Drouin, Luc Tremblay and Dany Marcoux, all of whom appear to have worked across multiple Ubisoft projects.

Richer hasn’t specifically commented on his apparent departure from Ubisoft and from his role as game director on Hexe. Based on his profile he was at the studio as recently as this month, so it’s unclear what led to the change. It’s also not clear who might be taking over the position. When Hocking’s exit was announced, Jean Guesdon was confirmed to be replacing him as creative director.

Last month, there was a tiny update from Ubisoft about the game in the form of them saying that it’s a “unique, darker, narrative driven Assassin’s Creed experience, set during a pivotal moment in history,” potentially pointing towards rumours that it’s set during the Holy Roman Empire witch trials. Come September, it will have been four years since Hexe was announced, with not all that much to show for it.

Important to remember that Ubisoft have been making a lot of cuts in recent months, in the form of laying off staff and cancelling a bunch of games, including the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake.
