After a successful debut, it sounds like Capcom believes its brand-new IP Pragmata has a bright future ahead

It seems Capcom could have another franchise on its hands. After selling 1m copies in just two days (two days!), the studio’s astronaut and small girl-starring game Pragmata could be just the beginning for its brand-new IP.

That’s according to chief operating officer of Capcom USA, Rob Dyer, who was speaking at the iicon conference in Las Vegas earlier this week when he said: “We’re to a point now where we’ve got another IP that Capcom – and god bless them, has an arsenal – that we can continue to go down.”

Dyer added that Pragamata’s lengthy development time, which saw the game being delayed several times, was “was worth the effort” in the end (shared by Game File via GamesRadar). So, far from confirmation that a sequel is definite, but it sounds promising.

Pragmata was first announced with a bizarre teaser back in 2020, when it was set for a futuristic-sounding 2022 launch. A year later, that release date was pushed back to 2023. In 2025, Capcom then promised Pragmata would arrive in 2026. And, finally, it struck the landing in April. And what a landing it had. Our Dom awarded Pragmata four stars on its release, calling it “a proudly experimental gamble”.

“I don’t think Pragmata is going to win any prizes for making you suddenly understand rocket science or write a laureate-winning screenplay about the nature of humanity, but the way it gets your grey matter working is special,” they said in Eurogamer’s Pragmata review. “I feel smarter for having played Pragmata, and I don’t think I’m going to see another game like it for a very long time.”
