Advisory Committee on Canada–U.S. Economic Relations meets to discuss trade and economic priorities

Today, members of the Advisory Committee on Canada–U.S. Economic Relations met to discuss trade and economic priorities ahead of the upcoming review of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA).

The Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister responsible for Canada-U.S. Trade, Intergovernmental Affairs, Internal Trade and One Canadian Economy, updated the committee on Canada’s negotiating team’s recent engagements with the United States and Mexico and on next steps for the Joint Review of the CUSMA.

Committee members discussed the continued impact of U.S. Section 232 sectoral tariffs on Canadian industries and workers, as well as the United States’ proposed Section 301 tariffs. They also exchanged views on evolving global trade dynamics and their implications for North America’s future competitiveness and economic security.

Chaired by Minister LeBlanc, the committee includes leaders from major sectors of the Canadian economy, representing extensive experience in business, investment, trade, and labour as well as Indigenous leaders.
