No Man’s Sky Headlines Apple’s New Wave of iPhone and iPad Games

When Apple revealed the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max last month, there was little about anything new for gaming on the devices. But not to worry, mobile gamers: a lineup of popular indie games is coming to the company’s phones and tablets.

No Man’s Sky, Sifu and Vampire Crawlers are in the first batch of seven new games as part of the App Store’s Indie Games Week, according to a post from Apple on Monday. The titles will be playable on both iPhones and iPads and are currently available for purchase in the store, with the exception of No Man’s Sky, which will be released on Oct. 28.

The new indie titles are:

No Man’s Sky, developed by Hello Games, is the standout of the bunch. First released in 2016, the space exploration game launched on PC and PS4 and was met with a negative reaction from players who expected big, beautiful worlds as shown in the original trailer. The backlash was so extensive that it led to an investigation by UK regulators over possible misleading advertising. Hello Games took that criticism and kept updating the game over 10 years, not only delivering on the promises made when the game was first announced, but also surpassing them while growing its player base.

With a vast galaxy to explore, including all previous content expansions, Hello Games says No Man’s Sky can run on the iPhone 11 and newer phones, as well as third-generation iPad Air tablets and newer models. iPhone players can use the touchscreen interface or a controller, while iPad users can use a keyboard and mouse if preferred.

These games are currently not included with Apple Arcade. No Man’s Sky, 9 Kings, Yes, Your Grace 2: Snowfall and Little Kitty, Big City do have free trials available to those interested in trying out the titles.

On Tuesday, Apple launched another set of hardware, including new smart home devices, at its Welcome Home event. The Apple HomeView is the company’s soon-to-be-released smart display for controlling new smart home cameras from LG, set to release in November, but preorders are now available.
