Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Comes To Astral Ascent In New Crossover Update

We’ve been patiently hoping that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 would make its way to Switch 2 ever since it consumed our every waking hour last year. Sandfall is still yet to make that happen, but in the meantime, we have a crossover with the wonderful roguelike Astral Ascent, which we can play right now.

As revealed in today’s Triple-i Initiative showcase, the sublime platforming roguelike has been treated to a bunch of crossover content from the land of Lumière. This includes three brand new bosses (Golgra, the Mime and Pétank), new rooms inspired by the game, and recruitable Expedition ally summons, each of which comes with its own special skills.

Truthfully, it looks wonderful. The crossover brings Expedition 33’s world into Astral Ascent’s glorious pixel art, and the trailer alone was enough to bring a tear to this writer’s eye.

Here’s the full rundown of everything included in the update, as detailed on the Astral Ascent Steam page:

Three Exclusive Bosses
Golgra, the Mime, and Pétank have invaded the Prison, each with brand-new combat mechanics built just for this crossover.
– Golgra – Calm at first, but her kicks and gestral allies get brutal once her second phase kicks in.
– The Mime – Hammers, nails, walls take them both down together, or they’ll revive each other.
– Pétank – Runs, then rains projectiles, clones, and explosions on you.

Three New Rooms
Straight from the world of Expedition 33 : Lumière, the Gestral Village, and the Campfire. One appears at random before the final boss each run: pick Expedition 33 content or the Andromeda Bar, but choose fast, it won’t come back this run!

Around the Campfire
Recruit a member of the Expedition as a special summon, each with their own unique mechanic:
– Gustave – Heals, boosts your attack, strikes with you, and charges up a devastating finisher.
– Maelle – Shifts stance with your HP; hold one long enough for a powerful payoff attack.
– Sciel – Draws cards : Moon for mana, Sun for direct strikes, Twilight for a big hit.
– Lune – Casts elemental spells matching your build, building to a powerful finisher.
– Verso – Rank rises on hit, drops on damage taken, push it high for a massive attack bonus.
– Monoco – Draws a random card, each triggering a different monster summon.
You’ll only get one Expedition ally per run, so take your pick, and don’t forget to give Esquie a hug!

All of this is available for free to everyone who has beaten Astral Ascent on Destiny Level 0. What an excuse to dive back in, eh?
