Looking for Marco Rambaldi?

Look no further. He’s at home, and plans to stay there for a while as he explores every room, closet and corner for inspiration. This season he looked at the home as a place of self-exploration and expression, a place where people develop their identities, think and shut out the noise of the outside world.

The clothes had a laid-back, tossed-together feel. Silk scarves printed with puppies and flower-print wallpaper fabrics doubled as skirts, while delicate webs of crochet spread across everything from denim jackets to the hemlines of silky slips and the bodices of evening dresses with puffy skirts.

Rambaldi used crochet patterns to great effect on little pouch bags, for the yoke on a ribbed sweater, and for the long, slim black dress that closed the show. It was easy to imagine Morticia wearing one as she shuffled around the Addams Family mansion searching for roses to snip.

The crochet was a highlight of the collection, which could look makeshift at times. A droopy red halter top barely held together, and the stringy cut-off shorts looked sloppy. Stiff silver shorts and trousers looked uncomfortable and out of place.

Rambaldi is on the right track, plying beautiful handwork and traditional techniques into his collections, but he might want to stay inside longer to consolidate his thinking — and clean his room more often.
