Some big industry news about Xbox is expected to drop this week, according to a new “exclusive” from The Information.

Just months after Microsoft’s game division confirmed over 3,000 job cuts, eliminating approximately 1,600 positions at the time, wave two is now expected to take place, potentially axing “hundreds of jobs”.

The same report states Xbox is supposedly planning to consolidate several studios. It does not specify how exactly this will play out, but suggests there could be mergers or movement under the major gaming banners within the division, which is made up of Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda, Activision and Blizzard.

The previous round of layoffs, which began this reset of the Xbox division in July, impacted multiple development teams. This included id Software (DOOM), while other studios such as Double Fine (Psychonauts) and Compulsion Games (South of Midnight) regained their independence.

Despite the layoffs and changes currently taking place at Xbox, the company’s under this brand are still releasing titles on Nintendo’s platforms. Last week, Blizzard surprised Switch 2 owners with the launch of Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection and Mojang’s new title Minecraft Dungeons II arrives later this month on Switch 1 & 2.
