On Sunday afternoon, Cos staged its fall 2026 runway show of looks that mixed corporate modernism through a minimalist lens of elevated cold weather wardrobing at the downtown WSA Building in New York City’s Financial District. Select pieces from the collection are available to shop immediately on the company’s website and in-store, and limited numbers will continue to drop throughout the season.

But in an unfortunate turn of events, the show was interrupted by a handful of PETA protesters that repeatedly infiltrated the runway amid model exits, holding signs and shouting against the use of wool before security escorted each from the venue. The crowd was visibly a bit shaken from the disruptions, but the show continued before celebrities and VIPs were quickly escorted out of the building immediately following the finale. 

That wasn’t the end of things, however, as videos later circulated on social media showing Steven Kolb, chief executive officer of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, grabbing two of the protesters and attempting to silence them by putting his hands over their mouths as they struggled to get away. He attempted to restrain one of the female protesters by wrapping his leg around her. The videos sparked a flood of criticism on social media, which continued well after the show was over.

Kolb responded to WWD, and to social media via an Instagram Story, with a statement that read, “I reacted inappropriately to an incident at a show earlier today. It wasn’t my place to do so. I should have let the security team handle the situation.” PETA later issued a statement saying it planned to file a police report and charges against Kolb, while the CFDA echoed Kolb’s statement later Sunday evening with one of its own.

But what about the collection itself? You know, the point of the show.

The coed lineup opened with men’s and women’s ultra-long, precise tailored wool topcoats — a big emphasis, with knits tied around their waists. Leather outerwear was cut both long and short, as seen in trenchcoats and workwear jackets in shades of black and charcoal while wrapped cashmere toppers and a faux fur robe jacket added a cozy feel.

Outside of outerwear, the brand presented straightforward tailoring with plays on proportions, such as slightly oversize cropped boiled wool-blend blazers paired with slim suiting skirts while modern tuxedo dressing emerged in men’s.

The brand also played with new ideas, as seen through leather pants paired with nubby jumpers or a pieced together raw leather tunic and skirt; double-face wool mullet dresses and carwash panel skirts, and softer women’s occasionwear. A vibrant purple draped maxidress nicely added punctuation to the minimalist palette while a double-faced wool blend column dress edged in embroideries and easy column skirts embroidered with mulberry silk and hand-drawn floral embroideries, inspired by 1920s eveningwear, brought forth new elegance through texture.
