S&P/TSX composite down more than 200 points, U.S. markets also lose ground



TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index fell more than 200 points Wednesday, weighed down by losses in the technology sector.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 216.49 points at 35,906.56.

The S&P/TSX composite index was down 216.49 points at 35,906.56.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 405.41 points at 52,380.66. The S&P 500 index was down 37.16 points at 7,636.36, while the Nasdaq composite was down 168.07 points at 26,253.34.

The Canadian dollar traded for 72.47 cents US compared with 72.55 cents US on Tuesday.

The October crude oil contract was up US$3.02 at US$96.05 per barrel.

The December gold contract was up US$21.70 at US$4,460.70 an ounce.
