European aircraft manufacturer Airbus continues to push towards its ambitious target of 870 aircraft this year, with 57 airframes delivered last month. In August, Airbus delivered aircraft to 31 different customers and achieved gross orders of 67 planes. To date, Airbus has delivered 475 aircraft already this year.

Airbus has a lofty goal of delivering 870 aircraft this year, and has just passed the halfway point. Deliveries remained steady last month, with the aircraft manufacturer outlining a range of narrow- and wide-body aircraft delivered to airlines worldwide.

26 Airbus A321neo Delivered In August

The aircraft variant with the most deliveries in August was the Airbus A321neo. With 26 total deliveries, these are the most popular type last month. Recipients included China Eastern Airlines, IndiGo, Volaris, Delta Air Lines, Air Canada, Cathay Pacific, Wizz Air, Transavia, China Southern, United Airlines, easyJet, American Airlines and Air China. To date, this brings a total of 230 A321neo deliveries across the year.

The second most popular aircraft type to be delivered was the Airbus A320neo, with recipients including Lufthansa, Xiamen Airlines, LATAM, Spring Airlines, Swiss, easyJet, Air Cairo, Avianca, and British Airways. A total of 16 of these planes were delivered last month, and a total of 136 across the year so far.

As Airbus continues to push towards its 2026 target, deliveries overall have risen 9% in the first eight months of the year, which projects the European planemaker to be on track to reach its target. This time last year, the manufacturer had delivered 434 aircraft in total, with this year being ahead by 21 airframes.

Four Widebody Deliveries In August

Following a snag earlier in the year, which forced the deliveries of the A330 widebody to be suspended after a lost tool in an aircraft tail, deliveries officially resumed last month. One Airbus A330-900 rolled off the factory floor in August and was delivered to Taiwanese carrier Starlux Airlines. This plane was one of just four widebodies delivered last month; the others went to Qatar Airways, Starlux and Philippine Airlines, all of which received the A350-1000.

So far this year, Airbus has delivered a total of 11 A330s and 35 A350s, 9.4% of all aircraft deliveries for the plane maker overall when compared to the 429 narrowbody aircraft that account for 89.8% of total deliveries. Total sums below, as per data from Airbus:

Looking across these numbers, for Airbus to achieve its goal of 870 jets will need to see deliveries ramp up to approximately 99 aircraft per month for the last four months of the calendar year.

Notable Delivery Dates In August

Analyzing the data from Airbus, there were several rather busy days for the manufacturer, with August 14 recording a total of six aircraft being delivered. On this date, aircraft were delivered to Cathay Pacific, Jet2, Starlux, easyJet, Wizz Air and JetBlue. All of these deliveries were for narrowbody aircraft apart from one Airbus A350-1000 destined for Starlux.

Another busy day was August 27, when five aircraft found their new home; all narrowbodies on this date were delivered to Turkish Airlines, IndiGo (two), easyJet, Breeze Airways and American Airlines. Rounding out the last date of August, on the 31st, a total of eight aircraft rolled off the factory floor, with seven narrowbodies destined for Qantas, Air China, IndiGo, Volaris, Breeze, Delta and United, and one widebody flying home to Starlux.

Airlines that received the highest number of airframes in August were IndiGo (five), Delta and Wizz (four), and Breeze and Volaris (three). Airbus is now focused on September outputs, as the manufacturer ambitiously approaches the end of the year.
