Minister Ng promotes Canadian trade interests during visit to Poland

June 28, 2024 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada

The Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, furthered Canadian leadership and trade objectives while in Warsaw, Poland, this week.

Minister Ng met with Jacek Tomczak, Poland’s Secretary of State at the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, which is responsible for overseeing the ratification of the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).

She took the opportunity to highlight how CETA has helped to significantly expand trade in goods and services between Canada and European Union (EU), including by reducing trade barriers in many sectors and aspects of Canada-EU trade. She also outlined how its provisional implementation in Poland has brought benefits to both the Canadian and Polish economies.

Minister Ng underscored commercial ties in the aerospace sector and noted opportunities to deepen defence cooperation by promoting the Canadian-made Airbus A220 as a solution for LOT Polish Airlines’ fleet expansion. Minister Ng recognized the Polish Investment and Trade Agency, a key partner in helping Canadian companies conduct business with and invest in Poland.

She met with Marzena Czarnecka, Poland’s Minister of Industry—who is responsible for nuclear energy in Poland’s green energy transformation—to discuss opportunities to enhance collaboration on renewable, hydrogen and nuclear energy projects and underscore the importance of signing the Nuclear Cooperation Agreement. Minister Ng also witnessed the official signing of commercial agreements, which highlight how Canadian firms can contribute to Poland’s shift towards clean energy sources and reduced reliance on coal, further enhancing its energy security.
