With Europe a competitive, low-cost battleground, the region’s budget airlines are always looking to launch new routes as they try to increase market share. Hungarian carrier Wizz Air is emblematic of this strategy, which it even continued to use during the coronavirus pandemic as other airlines made cuts. Its most recent growth has focused more on secondary European cities.

According to scheduling data made available by Cirium, an aviation analytics company, Wizz Air has added eight new airports to its network when we compare its operations in the August 2026-July 2027 period to those in 2025. These fresh facilities span a wide range of countries in Europe and even North Africa: in this article, we will examine Wizz Air’s additions and the routes it serves from these airports.

Oradea Has The Most Flights As Wizz Air Celebrates 20 Years In Romania

Of the eight new additions, Oradea International Airport (OMR) in the northwest of Romania has the most Wizz Air flights, with a grand total of 312 penciled in between August 2026 and July 2027. The Hungarian budget carrier serves three different destinations from this facility: Milan Bergamo and Rome Fiumicino in Italy, and Dortmund in Germany.

Interestingly, Wizz Air does not operate these services itself; its Maltese subsidiary, Wizz Air Malta, does. Passengers flying on these routes can expect twice-weekly frequencies, with the aircraft of choice being the 239-seat Airbus A321neo. Romania is an important market for Wizz Air, and it recently celebrated 20 years of flights to the country. CCO Ian Malin commented on the milestone.

Over the years, Wizz Air’s famously low fares have made it a popular choice for leisure travelers looking to save money on their holiday flights. With this in mind, it is far from surprising to see that half of its new airports are clustered in two popular Mediterranean leisure destinations: Croatia and Greece. In the former, Wizz Air has added flights to Rijeka and Zadar for sun-seekers.

These services admittedly run at a lower frequency and more seasonally than the aforementioned additions in Oradea. Indeed, it operates just 67 flights out of Rijeka between August and October 2026, to Gdansk, Katowice, and Lublin. Zadar, meanwhile, has 52 flights concentrated in August and September, serving Budapest and Warsaw.

In Greece, Wizz Air’s additions include Kalamata International Airport (KLX) and Kefalonia International Airport (EFL). The former is its smallest addition, with just 14 flights in the examined period. These serve Budapest in August and September 2026. Kefalonia, meanwhile, has 63 flights, concentrated in August and September. They serve Bucharest, Budapest, and Rome.

The Best Of The Rest

Mahón Menorca Airport (MAH) in Spain’s Balearic Islands is another popular destination for leisure flyers. Wizz Air is operating 82 rotations here between August and October 2026. Budapest and Warsaw will be served for all three months, while Rome’s flights will cease after September. Another thing to note about the Rome flights is that they are operated by Wizz Air Malta.

Further afield, Wizz Air’s second and third-largest additions by flights operated are Ankara in Turkey and Alexandria in Egypt. At the former facility, the carrier operates thrice-weekly flights year-round to and from its Budapest base. Meanwhile, at the latter, thrice-weekly flights to and from Rome Fiumicino are set to commence in September and run until at least July of next year with the A321neo.
