We’ve seen higher welcome offers on the card in the past, so if you’re not in a rush, you may want to wait for an offer of at least 125,000 bonus points. However, if the card fits your needs now, a 100,000-point offer can still provide substantial value.

At the simplest level, 100,000 points are worth $1,000 when redeemed for cash back or statement credits at 1 cent apiece. With Chase Points Boost redemptions, those same 100,000 points can be worth up to $2,000 toward select travel booked through Chase Travel℠.

This card is particularly ideal for frequent travelers, Chase Sapphire Lounge enthusiasts and those who would find value in the card’s list of statement credits and perks. Let’s break it down.

Earning rate highlights include:

• 10 points per dollar spent on eligible Peloton equipment and accessory purchases over $150 (up to $5,000 spent; through Dec. 31, 2027)
• 8 points per dollar spent on all Chase Travel purchases
• 5 points per dollar spent on Lyft purchases (through Sept. 30, 2027)
• 4 points per dollar spent on flights and hotels booked directly
• 3 points per dollar spent on dining
• 1 point per dollar spent on everything else

Plus, the card’s multiple statement credits help make up for its $795 annual fee. These include:

• $500 in annual statement credits (two up to $250 credits) for bookings of two nights or more made with The Edit, Chase’s luxury hotel booking platform
• $300 in statement credits for travel purchases each account anniversary year (this credit is flexible and applies to all travel purchases automatically, up to $300)
• $300 in annual dining credits (up to $150 biannually) when you dine with restaurants included in the Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables program (which can be booked through OpenTable)
• $300 in annual statement credits (up to $150 biannually) for concert and event tickets purchased with StubHub and viagogo (activation required; through Dec. 31, 2027)
• $300 annually in monthly DoorDash promos (up to $25 monthly; through Dec. 31, 2027; you’ll also receive a complimentary DoorDash DashPass subscription through the same date; activation required)
• $288 in annual statement credits for Apple TV and Apple Music subscriptions (through June 22, 2027; one-time activation per service required)
• A $250 statement credit for select Chase Travel hotel bookings (for eligible bookings of two nights or more; one-time use only; through Dec. 31, 2026)
• Up to $120 in statement credits for Global Entry, TSA PreCheck or Nexus every four years
• $120 in annual statement credits (up to $10 monthly) toward a complimentary Peloton membership (through Dec. 31, 2027)

Cardholders also receive access to Chase Sapphire lounges for themselves and up to two guests, as well as a Priority Pass Select membership.

Authorized users can also receive lounge access for themselves and up to two guests. The authorized user fee on the Sapphire Reserve is $195.

The card comes with complimentary mid-tier IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite status (through Dec. 31, 2027) as well.

If you spend $75,000 or more on the card in a calendar year, you’ll also unlock:

• Top-tier IHG One Rewards Diamond Elite status
• Mid-tier World of Hyatt Explorist status
• Southwest Rapid Rewards A-List status

Application rules and restrictions

If you’ve been eyeing the Sapphire Reserve but also hold another personal card in the Sapphire family, such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (see rates and fees), we have good news: Chase allows cardholders to hold both Sapphire products at the same time.

However, if you are considering holding both cards, you’ll want to be aware of Chase’s welcome offer eligibility, which limits how many times you can earn a welcome offer.

Per Chase’s rules, if you have earned the welcome offer on a card before, you likely cannot earn a welcome offer again with the same card. You can, however, earn welcome offers on more than one Sapphire card.

For example, if you hold the Sapphire Preferred and previously earned its welcome bonus, you can still earn the welcome offer on the Sapphire Reserve, as long as you’ve never earned a Sapphire Reserve bonus before.

This is a key restriction on earning bonuses within the Sapphire family, so keep it in mind before applying.

Chase’s 5/24 rule

You’ll also want to consider Chase’s 5/24 rule before applying. Although Chase doesn’t officially publish this restriction, you’ll generally have difficulty getting approved for a new Chase card if you’ve opened five or more personal credit cards across all issuers within the past 24 months.

Because the Sapphire Reserve is subject to this rule, it’s worth checking your 5/24 status before submitting an application.

What credit score do you need for the Chase Sapphire Reserve?

The Sapphire Reserve is a premium rewards card, and we recommend having a good to excellent credit score before applying. Generally, that means a FICO score of at least 670, though having a score in that range doesn’t guarantee approval.

Chase will consider other factors when evaluating your application, including your income, credit history and existing relationship with the issuer.
