Fatma Shaheen’s Skin Design London Launches First Beauty-tech Device

A TIGHT EDIT: Skin Design London’s founder and clinical director Fatma Shaheen could write volumes about what she’s learned on skin from decades of bringing out the glow in the likes of Kim Kardashian, Naomi Campbell and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

Instead, Shaheen condensed her expertise into SDL Tighten Boost, the label’s first beauty-tech device, launching on Monday.

“This is my book,” she quipped. “First because my journey has been built around technology-led, quick but long-lasting transformation using clinic devices; [and] second because it condenses 18 years of methods in five modes, my ‘chapters’ on the ways I treat skin.”

Positioned as an at-home extension of Shaheen’s portfolio of skin care focusing on high performance and low irritation products, the device is meant to enhance an existing skin routine and took two years to develop, according to the founder.

In the device are four LED wavelengths, identifiable by color, as well as radiofrequence, electrical muscle stimulation, microcurrent and electroporation, based on her Dermal Matrix Tech system that had been developed in-clinic first before being validated for cosmetic use.

The ensemble, sequenced to work together, can be used in a 5-minute quick mode for “urgent glow-ups” as Shaheen put it, or a 30-minute full protocol designed for consistent, daily use.

“The tech is designed to deliver that instantly because we’re just also impatient — and not just because the way the world is,” she said. “Everyone wants transformation today but the most important thing is [that] you’re laying the right foundation for a continuous transformation that is consistent and daily. There’s no shortcuts to anything.”

Priced at 1,250 pounds, the SDL Tighten Boost will be available exclusively at Harrods and on Skin Design London’s website. It is also undergoing medical-grade FDA approval ahead of a wider release in the U.S. later this year.
