Helldivers 2’s Warhammer 40k warbond finally gets a release date, will let you bust out the meltaguns and meltamines

After tease upon tease upon tease, Helldivers 2’s Warhammer 40k crossover warbond will finally arrive on August 12th. If you splash out for it, you’ll get a box of gear, stratagems and cosmetics inspired by the Astra Militarum’s elite Cadian Kasrkin troops.

As shown off in the trailer above, the warbond – dubbed Castellan’s Creed – is the usual two armour sets and a smattering of weapons affair. Starting off with the latter, the hot-shot marksman rifle is the pack’s primary gun, effective at short range but better at long. The previously teased bolt pistol is the small but mighty sidearm.

Then, there’s the meltagun and meltamines, a summonable stratagem and bucket of throwables which can both be used to cook enemies if you fancy a break from your trusty flamethrower. Armour-wise, the heavy Demo-Trooper set and medium Sharpshooter set both offer a passive boost to weapon handling and support weapon reload briskness. Rounding things out are the standard array of warbond-specific capes, banners and vehicle paintjobs.

While the warbond’s purchasable using super credits either bought with real cash or ground for just by playing the game, Arrowhead have noted you won’t be able to buy it using a premium warbond token.

Oh, and if you’re after a lore justification for Warhammer gear showing up in Super Earth’s battle for galactic supremacy, it’s been commissioned “in honour of the valiant Helldivers who gave their lives in a heroic last stand to defend the peaceful world of Chara during the First Galactic War.”

Hopefully anyone diving back into the shooter for the first time in a while to try the warbond won’t be troubled by cheaters, since Arrowhead announced plans to try and tackle folks using exploits to earn super credits faster than should be possible earlier this month.
