Air Jordan 17 Retro Low SP ‘Black Patent’ Release Date IV7640-001

Historically, Air Jordans 1 through 14 have been Jordan Brand’s most popular — and most frequently reissued — models. But the tide could soon be turning as there’s been a recent emphasis on post-Air Jordan 13 silhouettes including an upcoming “Black Pack” and a new, but familiar spin on the Air Jordan 17 Low.

The latter Air Jordan 17 Low is arriving soon in a glossy new “Black Patent” spin on one of the model’s original colorways. First launched in 2002 in a smooth black leather build, the upcoming release features the same blacked-out color blocking and chrome details, but replaces the standard leather with a sleek patent finish. This is seen throughout the entire upper, save for the tongue area which features a perforated leather instead of the croc-embossed patent material seen on the original ’02 pair.

A similar Air Jordan 17 Low will be included in the brand’s Black Pack coming out this holiday season. Releasing alongside the Air Jordan 14 Low, Air Jordan 15 and Air Jordan 16, each sneaker in the collection is outfitted with premium materials which includes a stingray leather on the Air Jordan 17 Low.

Aside from this Black Patent style and the aforementioned Black Pack, there’s more to come soon for the Air Jordan 17. In February, for NBA All-Star Weekend, the model is expected to receive its first-ever reissue in its original College Blue colorway.

Other oft-overlooked Air Jordan models that have recently received attention from the brand include the Air Jordan 16, which will be released this month in collaboration with Ghanaian brand Free the Youth.

Set for a limited-edition release, the Air Jordan 17 Retro Low SP Black Patent will be released in Europe on Aug. 8 for $245 under style code IV7640-001. A wider global release for the Black/Black/Metallic Silver is expected soon.
