After a thrilling third round, we’re now down to the last eight at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The round of 16 saw all three co-hosts eliminated: Canada’s campaign ended at the hands of an impressive Morocco; Mexico lost to England in one of the best games of the World Cup so far; and the USA was knocked out by Belgium in a match mired in controversy following the lifting of Folarin Balogun’s suspension.
Pretournament favorite France still appears to be the team to beat, with Les Bleus battling past a resolute Paraguay in their last-16 fixture. Spain continues to improve, with Luis de la Fuente’s squad easing past Austria 3-0 in their third-round matchup. Lionel Messi’s Argentina, meanwhile, survived after being on the brink of a shock exit at the hands of Egypt, with three late goals earning a thrilling, if controversial, 3-2 win over the Pharaohs.
The quest for the World Cup’s Golden Boot award is also shaping up nicely, with Messi currently topping the goalscorer table with eight goals, ahead of the likes of Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland and Harry Kane. Two star names now out of the running for the award are Cristiano Ronaldo and Vinícius Júnior, with Portugal and Brazil both knocked out in the round of 16.
Every remaining game is set to be broadcast live in the US on either Fox Sports or FS1. The tournament reaches its climax with the final at New York New Jersey Stadium (aka MetLife Stadium) in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on July 19.

Exclusive English-language commentary live broadcast rights for every World Cup 2026 match are held by Fox, with games streaming on Fox and FS1. The cheapest option for most cord-cutters will be the Fox One streaming app, which will carry each match.

Livestream the 2026 World Cup in the US with Spanish commentary
Spanish-language broadcast rights in the US are held by NBCUniversal, with Telemundo set to show 92 games and the remaining games broadcast by Universo. Both sets of broadcasts will be available to stream on Peacock, with the service set to provide coverage in Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos.
