Factsheet on deliverables announced during the Team Canada Trade Mission to Japan


As part of the Team Canada Trade Mission, Minister Sidhu celebrated the announcement of 14 commercial agreements – see list below. The total estimated value of the agreements is over $1.7B.

1. MDA Space / Mitsubishi Electric:

MDA Space Ltd. has been selected by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation to design and manufacture the digital payload, antennas and various subsystems for the next-generation defence communications satellite program in geostationary orbit ordered by the Japan Ministry of Defense. MDA Space will manufacture and test the advanced antenna solutions in Montréal, while MDA Space UK will support the core technology for the advanced, anti-jamming, resilient multi-beam payload with digital beamforming that can be dynamically reconfigured in orbit.

2. RSAT (Reliasat) Inc. / WARPSPACE:

The Parties agree to collaborate on end-to-end optical communication and data relay solutions, combining WARPSPACE optical modems with RSAT satellite platforms for mutually agreed opportunities.

3. J.A. Larue / Hokuden Kogyo:

This partnership will support future sales, market development, after-sales service, and the promotion and distribution of Larue industrial snow removal equipment in Japan.

4. Lowfoot / RIX:

Letter of intent presenting a collaboration to explore the integration of advanced software solutions with existing operational systems. The partnership will begin with a proof of concept at a testing facility to evaluate performance and compatibility. The initiative aims to enhance energy management in manufacturing environments while creating opportunities for future pilot projects and broader technology deployment.

5. BlackBerry/ Astemo:

BlackBerry QNX has been chosen by Astemo, a major Japanese automotive supplier, to provide core software for next-generation vehicles. The agreement strengthens collaboration between Canada’s software sector and Japan’s automotive industry, building on a long-standing partnership.

6. RSAT (Reliasat) Inc. / SPARC Global Solutions:

The MOU establishes a high-level framework for strategic collaboration in end-to-end remote sensing, ISR systems, and geospatial intelligence. This partnership will combine RSAT’s upstream satellite data acquisition – including satellite platforms, constellations, and ground station infrastructure – with SPARC’s downstream geospatial processing, GIS application development, analytics platforms, and decision-support services.

7. SPARC Global Solutions / Autnhive Corporation:

This MOU brings together SPARC’s geospatial intelligence and GeoAI capabilities with Autnhive’s AI security, privacy, compliance, and governance expertise. Autnhive’s SAMI platform helps organizations discover, secure, govern, monitor, and evidence AI systems across assessment, deployment, and live production – covering AI security, sensitive-data protection, privacy controls, compliance management, governance monitoring, risk mapping, audit evidence, and executive reporting.

8. Deep Sky / SMBC:

SMBC is investing in Montreal-headquartered Deep Sky, strengthening the companies’ partnership and supporting the development of the Japan–Canada carbon removal corridor. Through this investment, SMBC will leverage Deep Sky’s expertise in DAC project development, CO₂ storage, and high-quality carbon removal credit generation to support the sourcing and use of DAC-based carbon credits and expand collaboration opportunities with project developers and corporate buyers. These efforts will support customer decarbonization initiatives and contribute to the growth and commercialization of Japan’s carbon dioxide removal (CDR) and direct air capture (DAC) market.

9. ASASoft® Inc. / Future Electronics:

Strategic partnership to support the commercialization and market expansion of ASAsoft®’s Canadian-developed grid modernization and cleantech technologies in Japan. The collaboration will focus on advanced polymer insulators, automated asset validation technologies, and ArmorGalv® corrosion-resistant solutions serving utility, railway, industrial, and clean energy sectors.

10. Next Hydrogen / Fusion Fuel Cycles:

This collaboration agreement will test hydrogen production systems for future fusion energy projects. Under this partnership, the companies will provide supporting equipment, allowing fusion companies to focus on developing their core technology.

11. Zerokey / Deloitte Japan (Deloitte Tohmatsu Group):

This formal partnership agreement recognizes and makes official the collaboration between Zerokey and Deloitte Japan to introduce factory automation, digital transformation, and automation initiatives in Japan’s manufacturing sector, using ZeroKey’s Canadian-developed real-time location and industrial visibility technology.

12. Kanata Clean:

an Alberta-based company that develops large-scale energy infrastructure to support cleaner, sustainable energy systems and industrial decarbonization, announced a floating LNG project in Prince Rupert (12 million tonnes per year) and that the company is pursuing agreements with Japanese buyers.

13. KPMG Canada / Obayashi:

KPMG Canada helped a major Japanese construction company, Obayashi, buy the global formerly Canadian-owned construction firm Multiplex. KPMG teams in Canada and Japan worked together to advise on the tax side of the deal.

14. Covered Bridge Potato Chip Company Inc. / Costco:

a new open-ended supply agreement with Costco Japan, marked by an initial shipment of four containers currently en route to Japan. This agreement represents a significant step in expanding Covered Bridge’s international market presence. Japan will be Covered Bridge’s 10th international market.
