Boeing’s family of 737 MAX aircraft replaces the Boeing 737 Next Generation with four variants. These include the MAX 7 (replacing the 737-700), the MAX 8 (replacing the 737-800), the MAX 9 replacing the 737-900ER, and the MAX 10, which fills a new niche. Of these, only the MAX 8 and MAX 9 are in service, with the others still not having received their FAA type certificates.
The delay is largely attributable to the fallout from the 2018 and 2019 MAX crashes and the collapse of FAA trust in Boeing after Boeing did not fully explain the MCAS software. The MAX 8 is advertised as having a range of up to 3,500 nautical miles or 4,027 miles (6,480 km), while the stretched MAX 9 is advertised with a range of up to 3,300 nautical miles or 3,450 miles (6,110 km).
These ranges are around 700 nautical miles longer than the previous generation, allowing the aircraft to open up new routes. In this article, we will examine the longest scheduled MAX routes for 2026, according to data provided by Cirium, an aviation analytics company. Some airlines have more than one of the seven longest MAX routes, but, for this list, each airline is only listed once with its longest flight.

Mauritania Airlines
3,592 miles from Nouakchott to Medina
Taking the spot for the airline with the seventh-longest MAX flight is the small airline Mauritania Airlines, which is based in the Saharan country of Mauritania in Africa. The airline has a total of six aircraft made up of one 737-700, one 737-800, one MAX 8, one Embraer ERJ-145, and two Embraer ERJ-170s.
The airline is the flag carrier of Mauritania and was founded in 2010 following the collapse of Mauritania Airways. It is the only airline flying domestically in Mauritania, and it currently serves a total of 15 destinations, mostly to other countries in North, Central, or West Africa. Its longest route is from the capital city of Nouakchott to Medina, Saudi Arabia.
The route is around 3,592 miles (5,780 km). There are only five flights scheduled in each direction, carrying just 800 seats. While many of the longest routes MAX 8 aircraft serve are leisure routes, this corridor is a pilgrimage route to the holy Islamic sites of Saudi Arabia. From Medina, there is a high-speed train to the major Saudi city of Jeddah and the holiest city of Mecca.

Alaska Airlines
3,622 miles from Seattle to Reykjavík
Alaska Airlines is one of the largest
Boeing 737 operators in the world and the fifth-largest airline in the United States. It occupies a sort of middle ground between the big four (Delta, United, American, Southwest) and smaller airlines (like JetBlue and Frontier), especially after its takeover of Hawaiian Airlines. Per ch-aviation, it operates a fleet of 252 Boeing 737s made up of 14 aging Boeing 737-700s, 61 737-800s, 79 Boeing 737-900ERs, 18 MAX 8s, and 80 MAX 9s.
The MAX 8 fleet is exceptionally young, with an average age of 1.1 years. Boeing records Alaska has unfilled orders for 170 MAX aircraft as well as five 787-9 widebody aircraft. Alaska Airlines took over Hawaiian’s order for Dreamliner aircraft and is now starting to grow its intercontinental network with its new 787s.
The longest Alaska Airlines MAX 8 route is from its major hub of Seattle in Washington state to Reykjavík–Keflavík Airport in Iceland. This is a distance of 3,622 miles (5,829 km). The route is the same as Icelandair (listed below), meaning the two airlines are tied for fifth place among airlines with the longest MAX flights, but with Alaska listed first alphabetically. Iceland is a European country, defining this flight as transatlantic in many aviation listings, despite not being in mainland Europe.
