The Air Force One pilot holds the top position on this list for three compounding reasons: the Colonel-grade rank requirement sets the highest base pay floor of any crew role on this list; the Washington, DC duty location generates the highest BAH in the continental United States; and the combination of experience threshold, security requirements, and mission demands means that the officers who reach this assignment are invariably at or near the maximum of their compensation tier.

The role carries no additional role-specific presidential pilot bonus, as pay is determined by the same rank-and-service structure governing all USAF officers. However, the rank it requires and the city it places pilots in produce the highest consistent total compensation of any Air Force crew assignment.
