Royal Ascot: Precise wins Coronation Stakes for trainer O’Brien

Odds-on favourite Precise powered away to win the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot and continue a fabulous week for trainer Aidan O’Brien.

O’Brien moved past 100 career wins at the festival this week and delivered another victory with 8-13 favourite Precise looking a class above to beat Touleen and another O’Brien horse True Love.

Jockey Ryan Moore was on board and now totals 97 Royal Ascot winners himself.

He told ITV Sport: “I just let her get into a rhythm and kept her going forward, we knew she’d stay well.

“Aidan’s horses always run right to the line. She’s a high-class filly.”

King Charles III presented the trophy for the race which was first run in 1840 to mark the coronation of Queen Victoria.

Earlier, the Commonwealth Cup was won by 11-8 favourite Venetian Sun who saw off Division and 50-1 shot Spicy Marg.

Venetian Sun won at Ascot last year in the Albany Stakes and justified her backing with a strong finish to triumph again.

“We’d probably prefer a bit of cut in the ground but she can race on all grounds and this is amazing,” said Brighton & Hove Albion chairman Tony Bloom, who part-owns the horse.

“It was a tough race but she was tough enough in the end and the great racehorses do win these difficult finishes when it’s close.”
