LONDON — The Victoria and Albert Museum‘s summer party marked its 10th anniversary on Wednesday night with a star-heavy turnout, drawing Mick Jagger, Maya Jama, and former British prime minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty into the museum’s John Madejski Garden alongside London’s fashion and art crowd.

Among the best dressed, Mia Regan stood out in a runway look by Matteo Dunkley, a fresh graduate of Central Saint Martins.

The designer embeds wax into his knits to create sculptable garments, and wraps them with ribbons. Dunkley has said that he wanted the wearers to appear as if “they were the prize — the clothing is merely wrapping paper, and the attention should be on the amazing women wearing it.”

Yana Peel, president of arts, culture, and heritage at Chanel, dialed up the drama, pairing a red fringe skirt from Matthieu Blazy’s Métiers d’Art debut collection with a slouchy black cardigan. Her partner for the night was stylist Elizabeth Saltzman, who opted for a minimalist white dress.

Murty, a trustee of the museum, also stood out in a sculptural yellow dress. Other guests with memorable outfits included Ava Kalitowski, in a simple black dress with a swan motif from Mithridate designed by Daniel Fletcher, and Mary Charteris, wearing a flowy silver dress.

Harris Reed, who served on this year’s summer party committee alongside David Furnish, Grayson Perry, Sandy Powell and Yinka Ilori, said his role was to curate emerging talent from different backgrounds to the party, linking them with patrons who may potentially support their creative visions.

Following his departure in March as creative director of Nina Ricci after three-and-a-half years, Reed said he is doubling down on made-to-measure demi-couture and a new fluid bridal offering, and he was utilizing nights like the V&A Summer Party as live case studies in where his customer actually congregates.

“As I develop the brand, I am also starting to pivot my shows and showcase to the spaces in which my clientele inhabits,” he said, teasing that his September show will experiment with a new format at the Mandarin Oriental by Hyde Park.

Fellow designer Huishan Zhang, who dressed Grace Dent and Jessica Brown Findlay for the party, said he felt “London is alive again,” with the weather getting better just in time for art lovers to gather at the museum, sipping Nyetimber while tuning in for a live performance from Jessie Ware, alongside leading figures from across the creative industries, which also included Ellie Goulding, Edie Campbell, Isabella Wei, Anais Gallagher, Munroe Bergdorf and Olly Alexander.
