Allen Edmonds Opens King Street Store in Charleston

As it forges ahead with its growth strategy, Allen Edmonds has debuted its first store in Charleston, S.C.

Located at 337 King Street in the heart of the city’s historic shopping district, the Caleres-owned brand noted that the store has an “intimate” and “locally inspired perspective.”

David Law, senior vice president and general manager of Allen Edmonds, said this design approach was employed “rather than replicating a standard retail formula.”

“The original brickwork was preserved to celebrate the space’s history and character, while a lighter, brighter design aesthetic complements the architecture and atmosphere of King Street,” Law said.

Inside the shop, there is a dedicated wall highlighting Allen Edmonds’ notable dress shoe legacy as well as a custom installation for the brand’s high-end Reserve Collection at the front of the store. Highlights of this line include the Miller Reserve Loafer crafted in rare crocodile leather, alongside an expanded selection of exotic and premium materials.

Meanwhile, the store also features the Port Washington Studio, which the company described as an immersive space that brings the brand’s history and handcraft traditions to life, offering customers a deeper connection to the artistry behind every pair of Allen Edmonds shoes. And complementing the footwear offering is a curated assortment of menswear and accessories from third party makers.

According to Law, the brand’s new store in Charleston was a “natural fit” for Allen Edmonds. “As a city defined by its history, craftsmanship, and enduring character, it reflects the values that have guided our brand for more than a century,” the executive said. “We’ve wanted to be part of this community for some time, and opening on King Street felt like a natural next step for the brand.”

As for how this new store plays into the brand’s overall retail strategy, Law noted that the move reflects the company’s “thoughtful and intentional” approach to retail growth.

“We focus on markets that naturally align with the Allen Edmonds brand, creating stores that feel connected to the local community rather than simply expanding our footprint,” he explained. “Ultimately, our goal is to deliver the elevated experience our customers expect while building meaningful relationships in the communities we serve.”

This news comes after Jay Schmidt, president and chief executive officer of Caleres, told analysts on the company’s first quarter earnings call that Allen Edmonds delivered nearly 20 percent sales growth with broad-based momentum across the business.

“Brick-and-mortar stores, owned e-commerce and wholesale, all posted solid gains in the quarter with healthy demand, particularly in dress, loafers and bags,” Schmidt said at the time. “During the quarter, Allen Edmonds gained market share and moved up five points to the number 11 brand in the $200-plus segment for men’s fashion footwear in the premium channel, according to Circana.”

The CEO noted that at the end of the first quarter, there were 58 Allen Edmonds stores, with 18 of these locations operating as the brand’s Port Washington Studio concept. “We also continue to be pleased with the outperformance from our Port Washington Studio stores,” Schmidt added. “These 18 stores outperformed the broader store fleet by 11 points in the quarter.”
