Canada imposes fifth round of sanctions on facilitators of extremist settler violence against civilians in West Bank

June 9, 2026 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada

The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that Canada is imposing new sanctions under the Special Economic Measures (Extremist Settler Violence) Regulations.

This round of sanctions lists two individuals and five entities for their role in directly or indirectly facilitating, supporting, providing funding for or contributing to the use or attempted use of violence by extremist settlers against Palestinian civilians or their property.

The imposition of sanctions is a key tool for the international community to support peace and security and to enforce international norms and laws. Canada has established a rigorous due diligence process to consider and evaluate the use of sanctions.

Extremist settler violence is further destabilizing the West Bank, driving the forced displacement of Palestinian communities and undermining the viability of a two-state solution, as well as broader regional peace and security.

With today’s sanctions, Canada joins Australia, France, Norway and the United Kingdom in responding to the recent escalation of violence by extremist settlers and their affiliates against Palestinian civilians and their property in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which is contributing to further insecurity for both Palestinians and Israelis.

Canada continues to oppose the expansion of settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem and is committed to a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East where Israelis and Palestinians can live in peace and security.
