The Seattle Seahawks made a minor trade in late May. They acquired wide receiver/special teamer Irv Charles from the New York Jets in exchange for a 2028 conditional seventh-round pick. They essentially acquired Charles for the lowest possible price to avoid competing for him had the Jets inevitably released him.

The Seahawks had the NFL’s best special teams in 2025, according to ESPN Analytics. Charles should make them even better in 2026. Charles’ special teams prowess could earn him a 53-man roster spot for coordinator Jay Harbaugh.

Charles played a pretty big role for the Jets on special teams in 2024. The former Penn State standout made two special teams tackles and blocked a Ryan Stonehouse punt in a 24-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans in Week 2. Charles tore his ACL late in the season and missed 2025.

Charles went undrafted in 2022 and has hung around the NFL due to his excellent ability on special teams. The Seahawks return their most important special teams players from 2025. That list includes Brady Russell, Mike Morris, Nehemiah Pritchett, and D’Anthony Bell.
