Roller coasters are about to get a touch of family with this summer’s opening of the much-anticipated Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift at Universal Studios Hollywood, and at IGN Live today, we debuted our in-depth video preview of the attraction, as seen above.

Universal Studios stands out as a theme park built as part of a working movie studio, boasting over 100 years of history, and the park has long mixed immersive concepts with elements focusing on the movie-making experience. When IGN’s Jeffrey Vega spoke to Universal’s Jon Corfino (Vice President, Creative) about the attraction, Corfino explained Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift isn’t trying to take you inside the story of a Fast movie but rather “almost taking you behind the scenes.”

As you can see in our video tour, this includes a queue that boasts a bevy of Fast-ready props, along with a whiteboard depicting ideation from a stunt coordinator about how to pull off the Fast & Furious series’ typically death defying action moments. Corfino described the ride as “a love letter to the stunt coordinators and stunt folks.”

With Fast & Furious, when you’re talking stunts, you’re usually talking cars. So of course the roller coaster cars here look like actual cars – specifically ones that will be familiar to fans of the films, starting with the iconic Dodge Charger favored by Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto, not to mention a couple of different cars that were driven by Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner. As Corfino explained, each specific car has distinct, authentically sounding engine noises accompanying it for those riding inside. He stressed that they wanted to get everything right in terms of details, remarking “No other ride vehicles in the history of roller coasters will be as examined as these.”

Befitting the full name of the attraction, the cars on Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift drift and spin as you move along the track. When asked which would be the best spot to sit in, Corfino did note sitting in the Charger up front had its benefits, including “moments where you rotate and you do see all three cars behind you.”
