Dsquared2 Resort 2027 Ready to Wear Collection Review

After the flashy parade of all things sporty and Winter Olympic-y of their runway show in January, Dean and Dan Caten seem to have shed their Team Canada hockey jerseys and decided to give some love their adopted country too. Their resort 2027 collection favored Italian polish and Mediterranean nods over Canadian tropes — without a single lumberjack shirt in sight.

Still faithful to their passion for mixing and matching, hybridization and interplay of high and low, the duo conjured a lineup for women ready to go from office desks to beach decks and back again, easily transitioning from mornings on sandy shores to nocturnal adventures in town.

Sleek tailoring and cheeky preppy looks with pencil skirts and cashmere V-neck sweaters revealing lingerie revisited boardroom attire à-la-Catens, before taking the dressed-up approach to even more seductive territory with liquid laced slipdresses peeking from under the generous, ‘80s-inspired proportions of coats and va-va-voom jersey gowns covered in shiny hot-fix rhinestones.

The designers’ denim expertise led them to distress jeans to reveal bouclé underlayers, incorporate chain detailing on jackets or tuck buttons on color-blocked knits. They also integrated denim into mashed-up tailored pieces, as seen in a cropped bolero jacket.

To step out from the city, the Catens relied on other hybrid designs, spanning from skirts constructed by mixing nylon bomber jackets and cargo pockets to versions of classic cotton trench coats enriched with hoodies and sporty nets in the lining. Other tracksuits and fleeced separates had a whiff of the ‘80s and retro appeal, and introduced a striped theme that the duo transitioned from sporty to mariniere in knitted tops.

The popping hues of fun statement shirts and tank tops, baby-doll dresses splashed with postcard prints and colorful beachwear made for the sunniest side of the collection, which included tasty collaborations ranging from one with Italian ice cream specialist Sammontana to another with Nerano’s Maria Grazia, the Catens’ go-to restaurant when they touch down on the Amalfi Coast.

The duo also launched the brand’s new hero bag Roxy — an East-West style embellished with looping belts and already available in 10 iterations — as well as the Cosmo, a high-heeled mule design in the Pantone shade of Dean Caten’s favorite cocktail.
