Mallorca’s relegation may trigger surprise financial boost for Barcelona this summer

The consequences of Mallorca suffering relegation from La Liga are beginning to create movement in the transfer market, and Barcelona could reap the rewards, reports SPORT.

While relegation naturally brings sporting disappointment, it also places enormous financial pressure on clubs.

On that note, Mallorca are now expected to seriously consider player sales during the summer in order to balance their finances, and Barcelona are in a favourable position because of clauses attached to two former talents connected to the Catalan club.

What are the clauses?

One of the main names being monitored is Pablo Torre.

Notably, Barcelona still retain 50% of a future sale involving the midfielder, meaning any transfer completed by Mallorca could generate direct income for the Blaugrana.

Another important case is Jan Virgili, with Barcelona owning 40% of a future deal involving the winger.

As Mallorca prepare for life outside the top flight, both players are attracting growing attention from the market, creating a potentially important financial opportunity for Barcelona.

Interest growing around Virgili

Virgili’s situation is becoming particularly interesting because the winger is attracting attention from several European clubs, including teams competing in next season’s Champions League.

Furthermore, Real Betis have also been linked with the player.

For now, no final decision has been taken regarding his future, but the expectation is that discussions will accelerate over the coming weeks.

Barcelona are naturally following developments closely because any significant transfer fee would provide them with a valuable financial boost without directly needing to negotiate a sale themselves.

Virgili’s current market value is believed to be around €15 million, while his release clause reportedly sits close to €30 million.

Should a club decide to trigger that clause, Barcelona could receive approximately €12 million because of the percentage they still own.

What about Torre?

Torre’s case is slightly different but still important.

Although a return to Barcelona is not being considered, the midfielder remains a valuable asset from a financial point of view.

Mallorca may decide to cash in if they need immediate funds after relegation, especially given the growing pressure to reduce costs.

Barcelona already earned around €5 million through previous dealings involving Torre, and another sale could still generate additional income for the club.
