Destiny 2 players share their memories and reviews – positive and negative – as Bungie calls time

Bungie fans are battling it out on Destiny 2’s Steam page, where unhappy fans are mounting a negative review campaign, and supporters are doing their best to mitigate it.

During the week, Halo and Destiny developer Bungie announced the end of content updates for live service shooter Destiny 2. Nearly nine years after launch, and after a myriad of content updates and monetisation changes, the developer has called a day on the storied MMOFPS, announcing that the final content drop for the game will land on 9th June, 2026.

Unlike Concord, Steel Hunters, and Highguard, the studio stressed that the game will remain online and playable in the same way that the original Destiny still remains alive with a small community to this day.

Since then, over 2500 people have left a review on the shooter’s Steam page, with hundreds of players leaving negative comments like “f**k this game”, “dropped one of my favourite games for another game that will last one year. GOOD JOB BUNGIE!!!”, and “Just very sad to see that this did go the way it did. So many directional mistakes over the years that made players leave the game, including myself (e.g. unplayable campaigns etc). I was a big fan overall, from gameplay to story and many more things. The potential was always there but only really used in the first couple of years. Really liked the game though”.

Others, however, are much more reflective.

“Well this is it. I have many great memories for the game and this is my final goodbye. And remember our Guardian forever live in our heart even the journey has ended,” wrote one bittersweet message. Another said: “I have never left a review or anything similar on any other game, but I think that this one deserves one.

“I have played this game for almost half of my life and I will tell everyone I talk to that if I had to pick my favourite game of all time, I would pick Destiny no matter what state the game was in.

“Thank you, Bungie, for giving me the best memories of my life and letting me meet my now best friends of seven years on this game. It devastates me that this game is coming to an end but I wouldn’t ask for anything else.”

Another player, with over 1300 hours clocked up in the game, simply wrote: “We’ve became legend”.

Following the announcement Bloomberg published a new report that claims Bungie is set to suffer “significant” layoffs in the near future, and that a follow-up to Destiny 2 is not actively in the works.
