Minestrone Soup served at Whole Foods Market is recalled

Kettle Cuisine, based in Lynn, Massachusetts, has recalled its minestrone sold at Whole Foods Market locations nationwide, affecting products distributed across 17 states and the District of Columbia.

On May 21, the company issued an allergy alert for its 24-ounce cups of minestrone after determining the product may contain undeclared shrimp. The recall was triggered when an in-store inspection found a single cup containing the incorrect product — one with shrimp rather than the labeled minestrone.

The affected soup was distributed in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. The District of Columbia was also included in the distribution.

In a statement published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, there have been no illnesses reported.

The recalled product comes in a 24-ounce clear cup with a minestrone label bearing the Whole Foods logo. It carries lot code 1762181 and a use-by date of May 27, printed on the top of the cup. Kettle Cuisine confirmed these are the only lot code and use-by date associated with the recall.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has reported no illnesses to date. Customers who purchased the product are advised to return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
