Delta Air Lines will be launching its first-ever service from New York to Olbia, Italy, today, making this service the carrier’s 15th route to Italy. It is also an important milestone because no other carrier has ever operated this route before, thus elevating passenger connectivity between the two regions.
The service to Olbia is just one of the new routes being added to the airline’s extensive transatlantic network this summer. Indeed, more routes are scheduled to be launched in the coming weeks.
New York To Olbia
Later this evening, at 6:10 PM (EST), Delta will officially launch the first-ever non-stop service from its hub in
New York JFK Airport to Olbia Airport in Italy. This becomes the airline’s 15th Italian route that the carrier connects non-stop from across its various bases in the United States. Largest Capacity Share Between The US & Italy
According to a report by Aviation Week, with JFK – OLB becoming Delta’s 15th Italian service, the carrier’s capacity share of 27.9% in the US – Italy market exceeds that of its competitors, United Airlines and
American Airlines. These carriers account for 22.4% and 22% capacity share respectively. Furthermore, the data also shows that Italy is the fastest-growing European market for the airline.
Historic data published indicate that Delta has 1.64 million seats to Italy scheduled this summer, which is up 6.5% from the 1.54 million offered in Summer 2025 and 20.6% up from the 1.36 million seats offered during Summer 2024. Considering this, the airline’s service to Olbia will be a great seasonal addition to its network for this Summer, as the carrier can enjoy serving the route without competition.
With regards to the airline’s summer schedule, the carrier will be deploying a record number of services across the Atlantic to Europe. In fact, this summer, Delta’s scheduled capacity even exceeds that of fellow US carrier United, which previously held the top spot.

Delta’s Italian Route Network
As stated above, Delta now has 15 routes to six Italian destinations, including Olbia. However, route data from Flightradar24 indicates that the Delta hub with the most connections to Italy is New York JFK, which is connected to six Italian destinations. it is followed by
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), which is connected to four.
On the other hand, the most connected Italian destination within the carrier’s network is Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO), which sees Delta-operated flights from six US cities: Atlanta, Boston, Detroit, Minneapolis, New York, and Seattle. Overall, Rome receives over 50 weekly Delta flights, of which the highest frequency can be attributed to 17 weekly services from Atlanta and 14 weekly services from JFK.
Beyond its own network, the airline also offers extensive one-stop connections via its European SkyTeam alliance and joint-venture partners such as Air France and KLM. This allows Delta passengers to book flights via partner hubs such as
Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) or
Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport (CDG) under a single itinerary, and gain further access to the Italian market (or the wider European region).
