We Review The Best Linen Curtains (2026)

The Good Trade editors endorse products we’ve personally researched, tested, and genuinely love. Learn more about our methodology and business model here.

I’ve personally reviewed nontoxic and sustainable home decor for years. These are my favorite linen curtains for creating an airy and inviting home.

If you’re anything like me and are slowly trying to create a more nontoxic, sustainable home, you probably already know how surprisingly difficult it is to find good linen curtains. So many options look beautiful online, but once you dig a little deeper, it’s hard to tell where the flax was sourced, how the fabric was made, or whether the curtains will actually hold up over time.

That’s why I spent months researching and testing linen curtains from a wide range of brands, looking closely at everything from material sourcing and certifications to texture, opacity, and overall quality once they were hanging in our homes. I focused on options made with organic and/or sustainably grown flax, thoughtful production practices, and fabrics that feel substantial enough to last for years.

After living with them in my home, opening and closing them daily, and seeing how they filtered light throughout the day, I’ve narrowed down the very best linen curtains that I would purchase again in a heartbeat (and often recommend to friends!).

Why are linen curtains supreme?

After testing dozens of linen curtains in my own home, I understand why they’ve remained a staple in beautifully designed spaces for so long. Linen has an effortless elegance (it’s relaxed yet refined), and it brings softness and texture to a room that few fabrics can match. Specifically with curtains, linen does well to filter natural light and helps create a warm, diffused glow. This can make a space feel instantly calmer and more inviting.

Beyond aesthetics, linen is also functional, durable, and sustainable. The fabric is naturally breathable, which can help rooms feel cooler in warmer months. It’s durable enough to last for years, and unlike trend-driven fabrics, linen gets better with time and wear. Because linen is made from flax, it generally requires less water and fewer pesticides to produce than many conventional textiles, and it’s fully biodegradable.

Our testing criteria & methodology:

I tested linen curtains from dozens of sustainable brands in my own home, hanging each one in the dining room to get a feel for the opacity, weight, and overall look throughout the day. Every one of my recommendations meets the criteria outlined below, and I’ve included my personal notes on how each brand performed (as well as noted my favorite).

  • ORGANIC & NATURAL | I looked for linen curtains made from sustainably grown flax and all-natural or organic fibers. Many of these brands also use lower-water production methods, low-tox dyes, and sustainable packaging.
  • QUALITY & DURABILITY | I focused on linen curtains that feel substantial, drape beautifully, and hold up well over time—some of these curtains were originally tested in 2025 and have withstood multiple washes and seasons. I also included a mix of sheer, classic, and blackout styles.
  • SUSTAINABLE & ECO-FRIENDLY | I prioritized brands that take a more conscious approach to production, from responsibly sourced materials to lower-impact manufacturing practices and processes, and to treating their employees fairly. expensive.

1. Magic Linen

Best For | Light filtering linen curtains in dozens of patterns and colors
Sustainable Materials | OEKO-TEX® certified materials, flax fiber linen

I first tested Magic Linen’s Tab Top Linen Curtain Panel in Striped Natural in spring 2025, and they’ve been the curtains in my dining room ever since. These linen panels are from 100% European flax and stone-washed for maximum softness, and they are OEKO-TEX® certified, putting them at the top of my list. The natural striped design beautifully filters in soft morning and afternoon light, creating a calm, welcoming atmosphere in my space. Of all the brands on this list, I recommend Magic Linen most for its quality of materials and its versatile collection and style options, including gingham curtains, tie tabs, and blackout curtains. The brand even has matching sheets, which I have in my guest room!

2. Quince

Best For | Affordable linen curtains with light filtering and blackout options
Sustainable Materials
| 100% European flax linen

Quince’s Coastal Stripe linen curtains (technically a cotton/linen blend) have been a game-changer for my sleep, especially as a new parent. I first received a pair in spring 2025 and immediately hung them in our bedroom in preparation for our daughter. The blackout lining has kept our bedroom dark and cool in the hot Los Angeles summers, and we’re going on a little over a year since first hanging them. I’ve even considered getting a pair for our guest room. Quince also has a popular European Linen Curtain panel, with over 500 five-star reviews, which I’ve tested more recently. It’s midweight and perfect for filtering light and granting a little privacy, too.

Though Quince is not the most sustainable option on our list, the brand notes that its curtains are thoughtfully crafted in certified factories committed to sustainability, and we consider them a great budget option, especially if you need to buy curtains for multiple rooms in your home.

3. Piglet in Bed

Best For | Gingham linen curtains, short linen curtains
Sustainable Materials | OEKO-TEX® certified linen and cotton blend

For a charming and functional window upgrade, I love Piglet in Bed’s linen curtains — especially their fun gingham patterns and shorter length options, perfect for kitchens, café windows, or covering glass-paneled doors. I personally tried the shorter curtains in Mushroom Gingham and plan to use them in my kitchen for a touch of cozy charm. Sustainably crafted in Portugal, these lightweight voile panels are woven from 55% European linen and 45% long-staple cotton, giving them a soft, airy feel while still offering privacy. Thoughtful details like hidden loops allow for fuss-free hanging and a seamless finish, while the chemical- and dye-free fabric ensures a healthier home environment. Whether you’re drawn to classic neutrals or playful gingham prints, Piglet in Bed makes it easy to add warmth, character, and sustainability to any space.

4. 3HLinen

Best For | Customizable OEKO-TEX® certified linen shades with 2-day express shipping options
Sustainable Materials
| OEKO-TEX® certified fabrics, 100% European-crafted Belgian flax linen

If you’ve spent any time on TikTok, you’ve likely seen the buzz around Roman shades. While I’ve always loved linen curtains, I knew a linen blackout shade would be the perfect fit for our bedroom, especially with a baby on the way this summer. 3HLinen’s customizable Belgian flax Roman shades have been a wonderful addition to our home, elevating the space sustainably. This San Francisco brand crafts each shade in Europe using OEKO-TEX-certified materials, so I feel confident knowing it’s both high-quality and eco-friendly. The customization options are endless, too—I was able to choose everything from the fabric type and color to the height and heading, making it simple to find the ideal fit for our bedroom window. Beyond shades, 3HLinen also offers a stunning range of sustainable curtains, sheets, and so much more. They even have thermal curtains as well as some of the prettiest sheer panels.

5. Cultiver

Best For | Luxury sustainable linen curtains
Sustainable Materials | OEKO-TEX® certified, 100% European flax linen
Price | $180

If you know anything about me, you know I’m a forever Cultiver fan. Their linen bedsheets are hands-down the best I’ve ever slept on (which is a bit of a problem because now I can’t imagine replacing them without wincing at the price tag). So, it’s no surprise that their linen curtains are just as dreamy. Made from 100% European flax and OEKO-TEX® certified, these curtains offer the perfect blend of luxury and sustainability, crafted without harmful chemicals. The pre-washed, lightweight linen drapes effortlessly, filling the room with a relaxed, airy vibe. It doesn’t even matter that they only come in natural or white—the simplicity lets in the dreamiest light, creating an atmosphere that’s both calming and elegant. With a rod pocket design for easy hanging and a commitment to thoughtful, eco-conscious production, these curtains bring Cultiver’s signature relaxed luxury beyond the bedroom—and I truly, truly love them.

6. Pepper Home

Best For | Custom cafe curtains
Sustainable Materials
| Linen and cotton

Custom cafe curtains? Yes, please! Pepper Home has some of the absolute cutest fabrics and prints for smaller kitchen windows when you want some privacy without losing light. Each panel is cut and sewn in the USA from a linen-blend fabric (note that this specific option includes polyester in the blend, but the brand also offers polyester-free curtains). I especially love how these are fully customizable, meaning you can choose your length, trim, rod pocket styles, and more. Because they are made to order, the curtains are final sale, but the brand is so easy to work with if you have questions about measurements and they offer fabric swatches.
