Justice Department Charges Shipowner in Baltimore Bridge Collapse

Federal prosecutors announced criminal charges on Tuesday against the owner and operator of the cargo ship Dali, more than two years after the vessel slammed into the Key Bridge in Baltimore, killing six workers and bringing one of the nation’s busiest ports to a halt.

In the indictment, prosecutors charged the operator, Synergy Marine, with 18 counts, including obstruction, misconduct of officers resulting in death and conspiracy to defraud the government.

Darrell Wilson, a spokesman for Synergy, said in a statement that the company “will defend against these allegations with vigor.”

The U.S. Justice Department previously sued Synergy in civil court and settled for roughly $102 million.

This is a developing story.
