May 12, 2026 – Brussels, Belgium – Global Affairs Canada
The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that she will travel to Muscat, Sultanate of Oman (Oman), and Doha, State of Qatar (Qatar), from May 12 to 15, 2026, to deepen relations with the two countries, as well as to explore new opportunities for collaboration on shared priorities.
Minister Anand’s visit to Oman underscores Canada’s commitment to building on the positive trajectory of the two countries’ more than 50 years of relations. While there, she will meet with His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi, Foreign Minister of Oman, and senior government officials, to advance bilateral and people-to-people ties. The Minister will also discuss potential defence and economic cooperation that aligns Canadian expertise with the priorities of Oman Vision 2040.
In Qatar, Minister Anand will meet with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, to further strengthen bilateral cooperation following her and Prime Minister Mark Carney’s visit to Qatar in January 2026. Minister Anand will focus on advancing trade and investment, security and expanding people-to-people ties.
During her visits, Minister Anand will exchange perspectives on regional developments with representatives of the two countries, to gain insights into sustained efforts and coordination in support of the safe and unhindered passage of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
These visits will underscore Canada’s solidarity with two key regional partners amid the evolving situation in the broader Middle East, including the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the heightened global economic uncertainty.
