Tod’s Launches Marlin Collection Honoring JFK’s Legendary Boat

OUT TO SEA: Tod’s is launching the Marlin collection, named after and inspired by the legendary boat once owned by U.S. President John F. Kennedy and acquired by the Italian brand’s owner Diego Della Valle in 1998.

The collection reflects the relaxed attitude of Hyannisport and New England, the original home of the boat, and the equally leisurely lifestyle of the Capri island, its current dock and sailing waters.

The men’s and women’s collection combines nautically inspired materials and leather, Tod’s core material and expertise, creating products suited for life at sea and outdoors. It is available in a palette in shades of green and cream, paying homage to the colors of the boat.

The Marlin bomber is crafted in technical cotton, with pockets and collar trimmed in soft napa leather, while a sailor’s knot personalizes the zipper.

Accessories include the Marlin loafer, with the signature codes of the brand’s Gommino shoe; a canvas and leather bag, which can be personalized with playful charms; a silk scarf depicting the Marlin, and the Greca belt, characterized by an all-leather clasp and here presented in a white-and-green striped version.

Della Valle has restored the boat, maintaining the mahogany interiors and the original 1950s style.

Wheeler Shipyard (Brooklyn) built the Marlin and launched it in 1930. It was originally commissioned by Edsel Ford, president of the Ford Motor Company and the son of business titan Henry Ford.

Joseph P. Kennedy bought the 52-foot Marlin in 1952.
