Minister Sidhu advances Canada’s trade priorities with G7 trade ministers

This week, the Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade, attended the second G7 Trade Ministers’ Meeting of the year in Paris, France.

Minister Sidhu advanced Canada’s perspective on  fostering a level playing field and fair competition for Canadian businesses, promoting sustainable e-commerce,  supporting a more effective rules-based international trading system, and strengthening supply chain resiliency for critical minerals.

During the Business 7 Conference on International Trade and Supply Chain Security, the minister delivered the keynote address and highlighted Canada’s trade-diversification priorities and the importance of attracting new global trade and investment opportunities for Canadian businesses. Amid ongoing global uncertainty, he emphasized the need for G7 partners to work together to uphold a predictable, stable trading system based on fair competition and resilient supply chains.

At a reception co-hosted with the France Canada Chamber of Commerce, the minister highlighted Canada’s strengths as a trusted and reliable partner. He also noted the deepening of Canada–France and broader European economic partnerships crucial in advancing key commercial and investment priorities for Canada.

While in France, Minister Sidhu also engaged with international partners to advance cooperation on shared trade priorities. He met with:

  • Nicolas Forissier, Minister Delegate to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, responsible for Foreign Trade and Attractiveness, France
  • Jamieson Greer, United States Trade Representative, United States
  • Peter Kyle, Secretary of State for Business and Trade and President of the Board of Trade, United Kingdom
  • Akazawa Ryosei, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan
  • Maroš Šefčovič, Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, European Union
