Veteran quarterback Russell Wilson remains a free agent both in the football world and the TV industry.
Wilson visited the New York Jets’ facility in late April, and he told the New York Post that the franchise had given him the opportunity to sign a contract.

The former New York Giants quarterback said that the visit was “great” and that “they offered me, and I’m trying to figure out what the next best thing is for me to do. I still know I can play ball at a high level, but also I think the opportunity to do TV [analysis] is great, so we’ll see what happens.”
Wilson, 37, has bounced around the league, spending the past three seasons with the Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers and Giants, respectively. The offer to join the Jets would reunite him with Geno Smith, who backed him up when the two were with the Seattle Seahawks together.
The Giants chose not to bring back Wilson after his lone season with the team. He played in only six games, getting benched in favor of then-rookie Jaxson Dart. Wilson finished the year with only 831 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. After the season, reports surfaced that he had been playing through an undisclosed hamstring injury before getting benched.

The quarterback has been eyeing the jump to television after his football career. At the start of May, The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand reported that Wilson was in deep talks to make the switch to television if he chose not to play in the 2026 season. Marchand reported that CBS was interested in adding him to its “NFL Today” show.
Wilson has already earned some television reps, serving as a guest analyst for CBS during his 2025 bye week. According to Wilson’s response in his interview with the New York Post, CBS may not be the only network that is interested in the quarterback.
The Jets are working through a rebuild and opted to move on from Justin Fields, trading him to the Kansas City Chiefs. New York traded a 2026 sixth-round pick for Smith and a 2026 seventh-round pick from the Las Vegas Raiders.
Smith is expected to be the starting quarterback, but he has plenty of inexperience behind him. The Jets are looking for another backup option as currently the other quarterbacks on the roster are Bailey Zappe, Brady Cook and 2026 fourth-round pick Cade Klubnik.
