February 23, 2024 – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – Global Affairs Canada

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that she will travel to New York, United States, on February 23, 2024, to participate in high-level events and engage with her counterparts at the United Nations Headquarters to mark the second year since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

While in New York, Minister Joly will reiterate Canada’s unwavering support for Ukraine in the context of Russia’s ongoing and illegal war of aggression. She will speak at a high-level event to raise awareness among United Nations member states about the fate of Ukrainian children subjected to illegal deportation and forced displacement by the Russian Federation. Together with her ministerial counterparts from partner countries, she will discuss measures to facilitate the return of thousands of Ukrainian children to their families, including the recently launched International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children, which Canada co-leads with Ukraine.
