Rohl wants ‘biggest goodbye’ for Rangers captain Tavernier

Danny Rohl hopes captain James Tavernier can bring his Rangers career to a close with a “beautiful moment” by lifting the Scottish Premiership trophy.

The 34-year-old right-back announced on Wednesday he is to move on this summer after 11 years at Ibrox.

Tavernier led Rangers to the title in 2021 and has won the Scottish Cup and League Cup once each.

With five post-split fixtures remaining, Rangers trail leaders Hearts by one point and are two ahead of Celtic.

“It’s a big one, big news for you, for us, for the club, for the fans,” said Rohl on Tavernier’s impending departure.

“Since I have been here he has been a good captain, he leads the group on and off the pitch.

“He’s a legend of the club and has made an amazing career here.

“He is a great person. You can trust him. He understands the game. He understands the club. He has a relationship to all the people here.

“He saw all the good moments. He’s also saw some not so good moments and hopefully at the end of the season he can see again a beautiful moment.

“For big players should have also have a big goodbye, and the biggest goodbye would be going with a title.”
