Airlines generally make money in the all-important Q3 (July-September), when demand and fares are usually at their highest levels. In that period, Cirium Diio data shows that
Delta Air Lines plans 11,895 long-haul departures from the US (double for both ways). That is more than in any other quarter in history. Flights have risen by 2% compared to the prior record.
An average of 129 daily departures will be available in the peak summer, with the frequency varying from 124 to 132 daily services. Compared to Q3 2025, Delta’s long-haul activity from Atlanta and JFK has been reduced. In contrast, the main beneficiaries are Los Angeles (+42%), Boston (+22%), and Seattle (+13%). They all have new routes.
These Are Delta’s Five Most-Served Long-Haul Routes
Delta’s schedule submission to Cirium shows that it has 113 long-haul routes in Q3 2026. In mid-August, for example, the airline will have 96 airport pairs with at least a daily offering. 15 routes will have at least two daily flights.
Delta’s highest long-haul frequency in the peak summer is three times daily. Five routes have it: Atlanta to Amsterdam (using the A330-300/A350-900 in Q3), Atlanta to London Heathrow (767-400ER), Detroit to Amsterdam (A330-300/A330-900/A350-900), Minneapolis to Amsterdam (A330-300/A330-900/A350-900), and New York JFK to Paris CDG (A330-300/767-400ER). In the past, some of these routes once had four daily flights on Delta.
Such high frequencies are, of course, because they’re a critical
SkyTeam link. They have a major SkyTeam hub at one or both ends. Of course, Delta’s joint venture and fellow alliance partners, Air France, KLM, and Virgin Atlantic, should be considered for a more complete picture. They operate on a metal neutral basis.

Delta’s Sixth To 13th Most-Served Markets In Q3
In sixth place is Atlanta to Paris CDG, which has up to 18 weekly flights in the peak summer (A330-900/A350-900), although the frequency will sometimes fall to twice daily. This SkyTeam-driven link deploys the A330-300, A330-900, A350-900, and 767-400ER, although the 281-seat A330-900 will only be deployed in the first week of September.
With 17 weekly services, Atlanta to Rome Fiumicino is seventh. This is Delta’s greatest offering to date, with Q3 departures up by a tenth compared to the prior record. This reflects the enduring popularity of Southern Europe for Americans. The airline has added 5,000+ additional seats for sale during Q3. Delta’s codeshare agreement with ITA Airways, which would have boosted traffic, ended last year.
The eighth to 13th most-served routes all have a twice-daily frequency in the peak summer. They are Atlanta to Seoul Incheon (A350-900), Boston to Amsterdam (A330-900), New York JFK to Athens (A330-200/A330-900), New York JFK to London Heathrow (A330-200/A330-900), New York JFK to Rome Fiumicino (A330-300), and Seattle to Amsterdam (A330-900).

These Are Delta’s 14th & 15th Long-Haul Routes
In Q3, Detroit to Paris CDG is the 14th most-served link, with Delta offering a daily to twice-daily service. The frequency drops to 12 weekly and then daily in September. The A330-300, A330-900, and A350-900 will all be deployed during the peak period.
Finally, in 15th place, is Atlanta to Athens, with 10 to 13 weekly departures, exclusively on the A330-900. Its frequency will be the joint-highest to date, tied with what was available in Q3 2025. As the same equipment will be used, the number of seats remains unchanged.
According to the US Department of Transportation, Delta carried 81,685 round-trip passengers between Atlanta and the Greek capital in Q3 2025. Given more operated flights than in previous years, this was the best year to date for traffic. Delta filled 90.9% of seats, which was over three percentage points higher than its average long-haul result from Atlanta (87.6%).
Athens was Delta’s top European route from Atlanta by seat factor. Given no additional flights or seats are scheduled in Q3 2026, the load factor should increase further. Alternatively, the unchanged capacity means that peak pricing could be improved, which could help with higher fares, yields, and revenue. It’ll be good to explore US DOT data later this year to see which approach was taken.
