The Good Trade editors endorse products we’ve personally researched, tested, and genuinely love. Learn more about our methodology and business model here.
Our editors have researched, slept on, and carefully reviewed nontoxic bedding brands for years. These are our favorites for your most luxurious sleep.
I’m sure that you’ve heard about how we spend one-third of our lives sleeping — but now, we need to dig into a key detail: The sheets you’re sleeping on. Your bedding envelops you in a cozy slumber all night long, which is why it’s important to consider the quality of the materials that you’re snuggling up with — both for your maximum comfort and to support your Zzzs.
Why choose nontoxic, organic bedding?
Our ideal bedscape is one that uses nontoxic and organic bedding to avoid exposure to VOCs, or volatile organic compounds, synthetic fabrics, and harsher chemicals. Depending on the material, we also love high quality organic fibers for their breathable, temperature-regulating properties, gentle and antimicrobial benefits to skin and hair, and weight/feel for your consistent comfort. While safe, untreated bedding shouldn’t be a luxury, the more natural your sheets are, the more luxurious the benefits for your sleep, your hair and skin, and your overall health.
Our criteria:
After personally researching, corresponding with brands, and combing through customer reviews, we’ve selected the best natural and organic bedding brands that are offering truly luxurious options without cutting any corners. We update this list regularly with our emerging favorites, and all of our picks are vetted to meet the following criteria.
- NONTOXIC/ORGANIC | Each brand’s bedding is made of natural materials of the highest quality, like cotton, linen, or silk. These brands all have third-party certifications to guarantee safety, like GOTS, Oeko Tex, GreenGuard, or PFAS-free.
- QUALITY | Luxury bedding comes with a price tag, so we believe that it should be crafted carefully and made to last without degrading over time.
- ETHICAL, ECO-FRIENDLY, & SUSTAINABLE | Each brand takes care of its employees and the earth, along with its customers. These companies are committed to caring for the environment and to safe labor practices.
Bedding is only the beginning of a nontoxic bedroom. Our editors have also weighed in on the best mattresses (including our favorite luxury picks), mattress protectors and toppers, pillows, and comforters.
1. Sferra
Best For | Egyptian cotton sheets
Materials |100% Giza 45 Egyptian cotton
Prices starting at | $871 for a queen flat sheet
You can’t talk about luxury bedding without mentioning Sferra. While the company doesn’t have the same certifications as others on our list, they’re in a class of their own when it comes to natural fibers. Best known for introducing Giza 45, regarded as the highest grade of Egyptian cotton, this raw material is grown in the Nile River valley. It then moves over to Italy, where it’s artfully woven into their lauded bedding collection. Because this material is made with only the best materials, there’s sustainability in the fact that it’ll last significantly longer than more affordable bedding. A flat sheet alone runs for more than $800, so Sferra products are among the highest price points you’ll see on the market today.
The Sferra story dates back to the late 1800s, when Gennaro Sferra emigrated from Italy to the United States. What started as handmade lace, collars, and cuffs went on to become a decades-long legacy of craftsmanship in the bedding and bath industry. By the turn of the century, Sferra invented the very first 1,020-thread-count sheets, and their high-quality Egyptian cotton bedding arrived just a few years later.

2. Peacock Alley
Best For | Heirloom quality bedding
Materials | 100% extra-long staple cotton
Prices starting at | $590 for a queen set
Peacock Alley’s iconic best-selling set, the Soprano Sateen Sheet Set, is made with 100 percent extra-long staple cotton in Portugal and boasts a 420 thread count sateen sheeting. The result? A buttery-soft texture that has a hint of shimmer — perfect for an elevated yet cozy bedscape. There are five calming neutrals to choose from, and each queen sheet set comes with one flat sheet, one fitted sheet, and two pillowcases. For more personalization, you can add a monogram to your sheet set for an additional fee, and the company notes that they “still hand cut, sew and embroider” many of their most popular products at their workroom in Dallas, Texas.
While these sheets aren’t cheap, they’re an investment in a brand that’s been around for more than 50 years. In 1973, founder Mary Ella Gabler introduced luxury linen and is currently run by her two sons, Josh and Jason Needleman. The legacy company has several other OEKO-TEX certified bedding and bath products, including a cotton blanket, towel set, and coverlet.
Customer Review | “They are like soft buttery clouds to sleep on. I can’t believe I have tried these sooner. I will never ever use another brand again. I am a softness snob when it comes to what I wear and bedding.” – Aimee C. (Read more reviews.)

3. Frette
Best For | Heritage ultra-luxury
Materials |100% organic cotton
Prices starting at |$4,825 for a queen set
If you’ve ever checked into a five-star resort, chances are you’ve slept on Frette bedding. Over the past 165 years, Frette has produced everything from crisp percale to smooth sateen to a cashmere silk selection. But we need to talk about Naturalismo, the 100 percent organic collection that launched in 2023. Organic cotton fibers are naturally dyed with dried poppy petals and finished with sustainable methods for this better-for-the-environment bedding.
The price tops the list, coming in at a whopping $4,825 for a top sheet, bottom sheet, and two standard shams. Made by Italian artisans, Naturalismo is the first organic line from the iconic brand. Since 2021, the brand has expanded their eco-friendly initiatives to the product packaging, made with 100 percent recyclable materials. The company adds that it’s actively looking to reduce its environmental footprint, and has a corporate volunteer program called Frette Gives Back.

4. Coyuchi
Best For | Variety of colors, patterns, and styles
Materials |Organic cotton, organic French linen
Prices starting at |$218 for a queen set
Coyuchi has become synonymous with sustainable, nontoxic, and organic bedding. Comprising 100 percent linen or cotton (the first brand to do so, by the way!), their quality bedding is breathable, comfortable, and offered in a wide range of colors and patterns. Contributing editor Brianna Schubert tried their most affordable option, the organic crinkled percale sheets, and raved about the texture, which she shared was “incredibly soft and designed with sensitive skin in mind.”
For the most high-end set at Coyuchi, consider nabbing the organic, relaxed linen sheet set, which starts at $598 for the bundle (one flat sheet, one fitted sheet, and two pillowcases). It’s certainly an investment, but one that hundreds of reviewers have gushed over due its airiness and durability — some added that the bedding only gets softer with each wash.
Founder Christine Nielson named the brand after spending time in Oaxaca, Mexico. In the American Indian language Nahuatl, “coyuchi” means “coyote-colored,” a description for the type of cotton native to the region. Since its inception, the brand has evolved to achieve certifications from GOTS, Fair Trade, and Made Safe.

5. Cultiver
Best For | Linen
Materials |100% European flax linen
Prices starting at |$480 for a queen set
Cultiver is known for their linen, and it ranks among the best linen sheets our staffers have ever tried. In fact, one went so far as to say it was the softest she’s ever slept on. The secret is in the preparation: Each piece of bedding is treated with an enzyme wash, which gives them an ultra-soft, lived-in look and feel in the best way imaginable. All of the company’s linen is derived from certified European flax, which adheres to strict guidelines involving no irrigation to prevent water waste. The flax is then woven by manufacturing partners — all of which are OEKO-TEX certified in Portugal, Turkey, and China.
“At CULTIVER, we craft pieces that resonate with the soul of a space, blending comfort and character in a way that feels natural and true,” founder Nicolle Sullivan shared on the company website. “With every piece, we celebrate the art of creating a home that feels uniquely and beautifully yours.” Items can be purchased separately, or you can save by adding a complete bundle to your cart. And if you’re craving even more Cultiver comforts, they also make a silk eye mask made with 100 percent mulberry silk.
