Kering Will Honor Julianne Moore with Women in Motion Award at Cannes

PARIS – The Cannes Film Festival will have a little more star power this year – as in Julianne Moore.

The Oscar, Emmy, Golden Globe and BAFTA-winner will be honored with Kering’s Women in Motion award, recognizing the actress for her contributions to cinema and her advocacy for gender representation in the industry.

She received the best actress honor at Cannes in 2023 for “May December,” and has topped acting honors at the Berlin and Venice film festivals, as well.

“Julianne Moore fully embodies the spirit of Women in Motion. Through the consistency of her artistic choices, the depth and complexity she brings to her performances, and her longstanding dedication to advancing meaningful representation both on and off screen, she has helped redefine what it means to be a leading woman in cinema,” said Kering chair François-Henri Pinault.

Beyond her film work, Moore has been active in social advocacy, notably as founding chair of Everytown for Gun Safety’s Creative Council, where she campaigns to end gun violence in the United States.

“I’m genuinely grateful for this recognition from Kering and the Festival de Cannes. Being part of Women in Motion’s legacy is incredibly meaningful to me,” Moore said. “I’ve always believed that visibility matters, that the stories we choose to tell can widen the space for women, and for a richer diversity of voices, both on screen and behind the camera.”

The recent WWD Weekend cover star has been a brand ambassador for Kering’s Bottega Veneta since 2024, and joined the jewelry house Messika earlier this year. Moore was previously an ambassador for longtime Cannes partner L’Oréal, making several appearances on the festival’s red carpet.

In addition to Moore, Italian director and screenwriter Margherita Spampinato will be honored with the Women in Motion Emerging Talent Award for her feature “Gioia Mia,” which is accompanied by a 50,000 euro grant to support her next film.

The Women in Motion Awards gala will take place May 17 during the Cannes Film Festival.
