Apple’s sci-fi mystery returns on July 3
Apple TV’s Silo is set in a dark future where 10,000 people are crammed into an underground structure controlled by leaders who keep much of the nature of their community and the history that brought them there a secret. The show is based on Hugh Howey’s Wool trilogy, and Showrunner Graham Yost has spent the past two seasons slowly moving through the plot of Howey’s first book. The trailer for season 3 shows they’re moving on to Howey’s second book, Shift, which moves much of the focus to the events that led to the end of the world as we know it.
The season 2 finale provided the first glimpse of the near future where journalist Helen Drew (Jessica Henwick) is asking Congressman Daniel Keene (Ashley Zukerman) about the possibility that America will retaliate against Iran for a dirty bomb the country supposedly detonated on U.S. soil. Both actors will have a central role this season as they investigate a conspiracy that will eventually lead to the silo network.

The show will alternate between these flashbacks and hundreds of years in the future where Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson) has returned to Silo 18 after spending most of season 2 in Silo 17. While she survived her ordeal she’s dealing with memory loss, a rebellion, and a new threat. Tim Robbins isn’t in the cast for this season, confirmation that Bernard died in the incinerator while Juliette was protected by her fire suit. But we will be seeing the return of Steve Zahn’s childlike Silo 17 survivor Solo.
Seasons 3 and 4 of Silo shot back to back. Each season will have 10 episodes and season 4 will complete the story by adapting Howey’s final book, Dust. The first episode of season 3 premieres on Apple TV on July 3.
